I'm not trying to find an excuse, was just basing it on some post that I read here somewhere... then again, my memory is really short term so I guess I'm wrong. Like I also said up top, I'm not "tuning" my car beyond what has already been tested... for example the ROM I'm using is the most "mellow" 90oct basemap which have been tested by a LOT of people. If you see the timing table on that, RPMs above 5000 have reduced timing already compared to stock.

I've further reduced timing up top to zero in knocksums (3ks and above is unacceptable to me)... mellowed down the JDM Mivec map cuz I find it too aggressive. Didn't even touch the fueling map. I think that is safe enough for me till the wife lets me buy a wideband :-)

I consider Gunzo's 90oct basemap on the same level as a Cobb AP stage 1 map in terms of "safety". My logic behind this is that a lot of people have used it and I haven't seen any posts that complained about issues, CELs, etc. I've disected that ROM and compared it to stock, they are close enough to be safe... as I've used it for several days now under constant "spirited" driving and the occasional WOT test.

UPDATE: I finally now got Zero KS, but I've reverted back to stock MAPs, although still using Gunzo's 90oct fueling table. Timing is 1-4 lower than stock timing in the 4K to redline table (under 140% to 260% load area). . I created my own MIVEC table based on stock, but more aggressive in the lower powerband. Boost table is stock, but slightly modded for a wider band. Now I can keep using cheap Costco gas troublefree hehe.

I'm happy. Much smoother accelerations & engine no longer sounds harsh at 50%-WOT. Once I get a wideband, then I'll really start tuning for something more aggressive. :-)

Here are my current modded MIVEC maps which are a bit more aggressive than stock... thoughts? It's designed more for daily driving than tracking :-)
