Getting Best MPG during Cruise

I've been messing around with mileage tricks on E85 for almost two years now on my personal Evo 8. Today I added 2-3* more in my cruise loads for my Tahoe trip which is all hwy. Last trip I averaged 18mpg on E85 for the trip. So far on this trip I am averaging 20mpg. Just some food for thought.

I am using the traditional MPG method which is mileage divided by gallons pumped.

ok so I took a little ride to dinner with my wife. 0-40 load @ 3* timing increase 50 load @ 1* and 60-80 @ 2* the bar pretty much the whole time was actually down under 25... mileage was around 23-24 highway... air temperature was around 32 degrees... what am I doing wrong here? All this done on stage 2 with boost pill removed, TBE, UICP, and Drop in. I thought I would have been able to get at least 26 from it on the highway. I didn't do any logs however.

So you only increased 50% load by 1*? It's very possible that cruising at 70 mph on flat ground your car is operating around 50% load and 1* change isn't going to make much difference. Every car seems to vary a bit but mine sits between 30-40% at 70 mph. If I reset the MPG meter on flat ground it consistantly shows 30-32 mpg cruising at 70 mph. Are you using cruise control or staying out of boost during these tests?

i'm using cruise yeah... the highway is a little up and down, but nothing major. I just didn't get why it wasn't in the 25 range at least.. on the way down to dinner I was at 62 mph... so it should have been higher IMO. The cold weather being more dense perhaps have more to do with it?

Ok so I logged several speeds today and when I looked at it, I upped the 50 load 1 more degree so it's 2 total degrees higher than the stock map from 50-80 load... sorry about the length of this, but I just wondered if anyone had anything to offer as far adding or taking out timing?

Go to Settings on the MFD .. and under MPG select from A to M .. that will give you a MPG based on your mileage A (if you reset at every refill) .. instead of the useless info it defaults to ..

Maybe you guys like to consider changing the MAP sensor output instead ..

took the car down the highway today with 2* total timing increase from 50-80 load. I must say going to stage 2 has been pretty dissapointing, not only was the mellon tune faster, but I cannot even reach 25 mpg on the highway, I got about 24, but I had to go up to 65 mph to get it... at 58 mph I got 23.6! I usually get close to 26 mpg at that speed! I'm very tempted to take everything off and go back to the stock set-up with the mellon tune.

yeah I am, but with the stage 1 map my mileage was fine.. I realize I have some mods and such now, but I just don't quite understand why if the flow is less restricted why the mileage would be lower.

exhaust backpresure?

meaning you make more power down low (ie where most of your driving is), which in tern means you need less fuel.

once you free up the exhaust, the back pressure goes away and now you need more timing to make the same power.

IMHO anyways
