ECU tune + upgraded solenoid??

Forgive me for the newbie question, but I've been reading across the diff. forums on this. Everybody seems to agree that EBC (like Blitz, HKS EVC, etc.) will not do a better job than ECU controlled boost (i.e. tune). Is this true?

I've also read, and been told by couple of shops, that the stock boost solenoid will not be able to handle the extra boost, and are not that 'realiable'/consistent.
What solutions are there if you don't want to buy the EBC for the upgraded solenoid, and need to buy it before you do an ECU tune?
One example I found is this Perrin solenoid:

Is this reasoning correct? If it is, any review on the Perrin EBCS from the experts/pro builders here? Any advise would be very appreciated.

stock setup wont be able to hold a decent amount of boost UNLESS you either replace the pill OR use a new solenoid.

HOWEVER for a minimal mod car its probably not necessary since you can basically make the same power (high boost + low timing VS lower boost + high timing)

Personally I like the flexability of the 3port, it gives very fine grain control over boost...

Thanks for the input. So I do need to replace to the 3port in the near future... any other options other than the Perrin that you know of?

Cheers!

GrimmSpeed has pnp, a lot of guys modify a GM unit to work. The GrimmSpeed is a nice looking piece compared to the Perrin.

Teph, its your car ..

without the mods you mention, you can hold reasonable boost 1.7bar to 1.4bar at redline ..

I agree the duty cycles will be at 100% relatively earlier without doing the things you mentioned
