ECU locked

Hey everyone!

Need some serious help here, recently my friend bought a Cobb AP. He was telling me all theses great things about it and I asked him try it on my car. So he was nice enough to unmarry it from his car and stick it on to my car with a stage 2 map. When he did that, the Cobb AP said that my ECU was locked from a third party. My car was tuned before, but because of some scandal, the tuner lost all the business and closed down. Do you guys know a way to unlock ECU's?

Also, can I do it if I get a OP 2.0? I'm looking into self tuning, but I need to unlock the ECU first.

Thanks, any clues would help!

Will

Was your initial tune using Cobb or EcuTek? I think you may be able to restore it to stock using ECUFlash.

It definitely wasn't cobb, I would say it's EcuTek. I want to make sure that I am able to get access to it from ECUflash.

I did some research, and another member of this forum had the same issue and other tuners couldnt get access to it.

Someone with more knowledge on the EcuTek stuff will need to chime in. If you have any other EcuTek dealers in the are, they might be of help. Check EcuTek's website to see who authorized dealers in your are are. I would think they have the ability to put stock tune/flash back on the car.

EcuFlash can pull EcuTek no problem. Just don't do mode23 on a EcuTek ROM.

Safest bet would be to get a 100% factory ROM for your car year/model.

I did bring it back to the dealership when I got my recalls done, and I did ask them to flash it back to stock rom, but question now is how do I know if I am on a Stock rom?

and also if the rom was locked, how did the dealer flash stock rom on my ecu?

Again, thanks for all the input guys.

If you were on stock ROM, you wouldn't have had the trouble with the AP that you did.

They probably did not if your ECU is still locked.

He's talking about the AP, he saying that his friend didn't successfully unmarry the Cobb from his car before trying to install it on this car.

I'm 90% sure that's not it, because the error says that "ecu is locked by third party" or something very close to day.
