What would be the recommended cut off amount of boost for a stock turbo?

What would be the recommended cut off amount of boost for a stock turbo?

I'm just wondering... do people stop at 25-27 psi a lot because the engine needs more fuel or because the turbo itself can't handle much more than this?

i got mine tuned by dyno comp and they take it to the highest but safest boost and it was at 19psi...

depends on what you are doing and what fuel your running and what gear

circuit racing (any fuel) = 21psi
drag/street (91oct) = 23psi
drag/street (93oct) = 24psi
drag/street (e85/meth) = 28psi

i generally run +1psi in 1st-3rd...

i run 26 - 28psi on nz 98ron. usually no knock etc. and thats on just a gsr with an invidia catback

Above 22 psi or so the stock turbo becomes very inefficient and may create more boost, but mostly by way of hot air that heat soaks an intercooler much more quickly. If the intercooler is heatsoaked or the air cannot be cooled, it causes pre ignition / detonation once it reaches the engine.

I'm running the ETS 4" IC so the heat soak wouldn't be as big a concern as if I was just running the stock setup.

it's not only a matter of safe or not.
the turbo efficiency counts too and whats the point of having too much boost if it's out of the compressor efficiency range ?
i would say 26 psi tapering to 19 psi depending on mods/weather/etc would be a good range for stock turbo on pump.

19 psi...that's a built SRT-4 max range. I'm on a stock VIII turbo (9.8 cm) tuned to peak 25 psi, IX turbo (10.5 cm) will handle 26-27 psi efficiently.

so if you have a 3 port and an upgraded BOV, and it tapers to say 22 psi... what's wrong with that?

nothing wrong .. 21-22 psi on stock turbo at 7000rpms is about the max you can go anyways ..

22psi is where the temperatures between the inlet and outlet starts to diverge by alot more .. meaning its going way beyond the stock turbo efficiency

oh I see... well I understand very little about the mechanical side of things... I mean I get it, but some of the stuff just takes a while to register lol... a side effect of panic disorder medicine I think.
