What would be the recommended cut off amount of boost for a stock turbo?

I have an Evo VIII with the 10.5 hotside and mine peaks at 25 PSI on 93 oct. without any problems whatsoever. I've been told that the IX turbo can handle up to 28 or 29 reliably, but I'm no expert that's just what I've been told.

evo9 turbo is a little more capable than the X

yeah abt 20'ish or more psi @ 7K RPM's and above will be hot air coming through, depending where on earth you are located (weather conditions, elevation, etc) and thats why i suggested taper to 18 or below 20 psi (max) would be a safe margin and lesser knock counts and probably run 1-2 deg of timing more instead of hot air.

of course fuel type, engine health, setup (WI/WMI) and if the stock injector still can supply enough fuel at that boost level at high rpms counts too. Happy TOOONING

i ain't pro but just my 2 cents

Either that or the 4g63 had more restrictions to the intake (heads / valves) and maintained a higher pressure due to more resistance. It's really like comparing apples and oranges. I believe the compressors are identical with the 9 having a 10.5 hotside and the X having 12.5 hotside.

MN BP93, this is what I run, sometimes spiking to 28 on the street with a MBC. No knock, safe tune, stock turbo rips pretty good!

LOL, who knows. Either way it's a decent size for some good power and plenty of fun!

I think there is some confusion here, because some people are talking about peak boost, and others are talking about boost levels at redline (tapered down to) it seems...

well we put in more info to make the thread more lively and informative i suppose.

Read the topic title carefully it does say "cut off amount of boost" i'm pretty sure we cut it off at the redline area don't we ?

guess you're right teph but 1 thing for sure the flow capability of X turbo is similar or "just" a little more than a e6 turbo.

"LOL, who knows. Either way it's a decent size for some good power and plenty of fun! "

could not agree more with this statement ! yehaaaa

happy boostin' guys

FWIW I'm running 26psi now with a upgraded FMIC and 3 port and it runs great on 93. My 2008 was tuned to 28-29psi on 93 and ran hard as well, that car also had a upgraded FMIC. I'd say on stock FMIC 25-26 on 93 is probably about the peak efficiency with a taper to about 18-19psi
