Evo X ECU Blocked

Hey All,

I had this car for a friend of mine which he said to have ECUTEK.
I read the rom and it opened in ECUFLASH and i could see all the tables.

I made some changes in the map, then flashed it back. I repeated the process
A couple of times, and the car would start normally. Last time i did it, the car won't start anymore, and i couldn't read or right anymore. The ECU was blocked!!

My questions are:

1- If the car had really been flashed using ECUTEK, can I read it with ECUFLASH like I did??

2- How to unblock the ECU? I heard i might need to bench it, how is that done??

Tks

You have to Bench the ECU if it had EcuTek on it.

I had a ECUtek map on my evo and when ecuflash came out, I was able to pull the rom and retune.

Got mine tuned from speed circuit (worst tune ever) as i found once I pulled to ROM.

Just go back to a older Rom version and reflash the ECU. also, reset your Laptop and disconnect the battery in the evo and reset the ecu in the car that way.

Golden are you sure i have to bench if it had ecutek?
Meat Evo maybe you didn't have an ecutek map that's why you were able to pull it out...

My question remains, how to bench the ecu to unblock it?

I've had to help people bench an ecu that was EcuTek'd before.

They tried to write and it did not work. I would definitely try to write first. You never know.

There are a few of threads on benching the ecu. On from Tephra, one from Hamish (Evoscan), and one from someone else.

I've retuned at least a dozen EcuTek Evo 10's with ecuflash.

I think you guys are bricking them some other way...

Bryan, when i read the map from the ecu, is there a way to know if it was ecutek'd or just ecuflash? The owner of the car wants to know if it was really ecutek'd or if the vendor is just rubbing him...

Darwin, you fubar'd the ROM.

meaning you changed a table that didn't have the right definition so you overwrote code.

that or the ROM just became corrupt somehow (bad RAM, CPU, PSU, etc)

you will have to bench it.. (Evo ECU Bench process in google should come up)

go back to the last known good ROM then slowly make changes until you find the table that screws it up...

Hey Dave,

Thank you for the info. All i did was change the idle adder vs coolant temp as the car had some idle probs... i did this process three times, first too times it was ok but third time the ecu was blocked... I saw your thread about benching the ecu and seems pretty well illustrated (thank you) so that what i'll do...

I still have a question. How can I know, when i read a map from the ecu, if it has been done using ecutek or just ecuflash?

Tks

you cant really tell...

you could send the ROM to me and it might have EcuTek markers (like CT9A did)

but does it matter?

Having an ECUTeK license in the ECU code on an EVO X will not lock out ECUFlash. The ECUTek ROM can be downloaded, saved, edited and reloaded with out any issues using a Tactrix cable and Open ECU .

Mike, is the ECUTek licence burnt into the ROM in the same location always and if so, can you say the address?

Yes it matters, because the guy who ecutek'd the car took extra money because he has to pay for the license... if all he did was ecuflash it...

I am with those that say you can simply rewrite an EcuTeK tune with Ecuflash on an Evo X. My first X was EcuTeK'd before Ecuflash came out. Overwrote with new tune post parts with Ecuflash, no problems.

Bench that ECU.
