should i stick with current EcuFlash or get protuned AP?
i have an MR. i had an AP but it bricked and i had to send in device and ECU in to Cobb, so had no car for 7 days. wife said "never again", so i convinced her tune from ******* ****** was ok since everyone in NW with an evo has one. my first tune from them was great, but ever since i put on this Harman Motive intake, ive been having so many issues with tune. that intake works very well with a proper tune. they dont seem to know the SST very well. im thinking of just buying another AP and having it tuned by tim bailey. he's the one who convinced me to get an evo anyway
Originally I was ECUFlash tuned by a well-respected and trusted tuner (he did great work on my IX). Long story short, here are my results vs. a protune from Calvin @ Cobb Tuning - Plano:
Why not just get ride of the intake? You imply the car ran good before the intake.
While we have no ECUflash experience, we just got tuned using AP Protune and we are very happy with the way the car drives.

well i like it and i know it works very well on an MR with a proper tune. part of the reason i chose it is because it has a dryflow filter, ill never buy an oiled filter again. not to mention, the design is identical to AMS, which is pretty popular.
So is the concensus you'll make more power if you have an accessport vs the ECUflash?
Kraka, are those two plots on the same dyno, I'm assuming? Just confused, is the AP, that much better than an ECUflash? Ive got an AP for my STI, and like it, just debating whether or not to buy one for the evo.

Same dyno, yes.

Ask Ivey which he prefers to tune with, if he uses both then get whichever you prefer. ECUFlash has some advantages such as standalone logging with a Tactrix 2.0 cable and the Tephra mods/hacks, but the AP is more convenient since it's a small handheld device and you don't need to bring your laptop into the car to reflash and there are lots of OTS maps available if you ever change your setup and aren't able to get in for a retune right away. It really comes down to personal preference, I've used both and like both

I think it might be easier to go with the AP, does it have OTS maps for mods similar to what you're running/ran, just an intake, UPIC, Test pipe, and cat-back?
OTS maps are garbage. A protune by a tuner that knows what he's doing will be so much better than an OTS map. The only thing better about the AP is that it is small and lots of shops can tune with it but wait lots of shops can tune with ecuflash. I talked to acouple shops that tune only with the AP and i asked my self why would they? The best reason i came up with was if the tuner messed up the ecu (bricked) or couldnt figure out the best tune Cobb has that tuners back. I just cant see spending 600 dollars on the AP. You can get a protune from 200-400 dollars. If you live in the middle of nowhere, alot of excited tuners etune. Also the tephra mods are awesome with ecuflash. Plus tephra will hopefully be coming out with his next mod that will allow us to switch between 8 or so maps!!!! I am sorry but if your tuner isnt doing the job, its not his equipment, its his knowledge. Go to a different tuner.
i dont have a choice, they are also the only ones in washington. i dont know what im gonna do i spent like 5K after i got it tuned on other **** and cant sneak anything else past the wife.
If your tuner cant figure out your tune along with the sst, contact SSP and they will be able to help you out or point you in the right direction. I know nothing about the sst because i have a GSR but if you post on here(or THE other forum) your problem along with logs and you tune, I am sure the gurus could help you out.
It's all in the tuner...
AP has some advantages, like flashing different tunes without a laptop - but really how many times would you do that?
Find a tuner that you trust and use whatever they recommend...
