Some advice for CAMs tuning
Some advice for CAMs tuning
I had a set of Tomei PONCAMs installed on my SST EVO X. They are suppose to be stage 1 and quite mild. After installation, the car still idles pretty much like stock which is what I wanted.
Now I need some advice from the experts here on the tuning strategy in terms of changes to Air/Fuel, Timing and MIVEC maps. What do I need to look out for etc...
In case anyone is interested in the technical data of the Tomei CAMs, it can be found here:

in order to understand how to tune the cams you first have to understand the basics of cam timing tuning and then understand how your cams differ from stock.. how has the lsa changed, centerlines, lift duration, etc.

This is what I did for WOT cam tuning. Do full pull. Then another with intake cam advanced 5 degrees and another with it retarded 5 degrees all the way down the RPM range. Then overlay the graphs and add or remove the cam timing in each rpm range to best maximize the area under the curve. Repeat process for exhaust cam and lastly go back to intake cam after doing exhaust cam just to double check everything. It does take time.
