What if you flash the car with the ECUFlash, record the info (flash counter), flash it back to stock, then flash to the Cobb Ap, unmarry it and then flash it back to the ECUFlash to see if that adds more to the flash counter. Is that another way you can tell if the Cobb Ap alter the flash count?

That would be a perfect test. Go do it.

Is there a way to read out the coding count without any change to the ECU?
Otherwise there isn't any way to get the initial count. At least I can't determine the way to do this.

Is it possible that the byte before the 0xFF is increased then? According to this thread that would be the coding counter byte that is visible to MUTIII.

I do have a correct one, the counter was increasing before, but once it reached 0xFF it just stays 0xFF.

iim wondering.... I have used a odb canbus scanner to check engine codes ( exhaust related and cleared them, as well as having a code for a maf sensor ( three days after buying the car) wouldnt that change the number of reads? and if that is the case.. couldnt some one just hook up a odb scanner tool and read it until it resets IF they know the original number... I have a virgin ecu, however I have used the odb scanner 10 times... not to mention the dealership used one on it. and they never checked nor did I ask, however. maybe this is relivant... I need to see if i can make friends with one of the mechanics there... and find out

no it needs to be a programming session, reading or clearing dtc's is not a programming session.

and acamus is correct, the counter doesn't loop over, once it gets to 255 then it stays there...

On SST you told that a reading session will be different from GSR... engine light on etc. etc.... correct me if I'm wrong.
So it's only a matter of lights or also the counter will be changed?
