Nicely done.

I would like to understand though how the heat decreased the fuel flow if only to have better insight into how this came about.

Tony can elaborate more but it comes essentially from the valve seat swelling and pinching off flow out of the tip of the injector.

F me!! How do I always fall for being the first guy buying injectors, strokers ect. I think I have been burned by testing the new unproven enough. Anyone want to buy some original dw1300's or fic1680's how about 3different ssp master cylinders or a Erl stroker kit or a primo intake.

So you still think the ERL stroker kit has problems huh? lol

All the others seem legit minus the DW1300's, mine worked perfectly fine.

Regardless, enough off topic haha, I know what you mean, I am the test bed on lots of stuff too and am on my 3rd motor too.

Heck I have no idea if the Erl kit was the issue I just wasn't willing to try it out again if
It was even a possible problem. Shoot for all I know the injectors could have been my problem I was the first one running them on a x and I had lots of fueling issues for sure.

The valve has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the body which locates the valve seat and stop.

When the injector gets hot the valve expands more than the body, reducing valve lift and limiting flow.

So the whole "hot fuel" thing in itself isn't a major issue then? with it being slightly different density and all?

and we can put this 100% down to the injectors?
(this is what I'm understanding!)

and do we know if this is likely to be an issue in any other injectors currently on the market?

Hot fuel does have it's own issues, but this particular issue is injector related. This is the only injector I know of that has this problem.

^ good to know.
I'm looking at a surge tank setup soonish, which means hot fuel
my cansiter is drilled aswell, which means more hot fuel.

** i know this is unconventional - but can you run the main fuel return from the rail, in a surge tank setup, direct to the main gas tank? Such that only the intank lift pump (with cooler fuel) is filling the surge tank, rather than the warm excess fuel from the rail?
This might help keep fuel return pressures more constant, too.

Interesting thread. I spent quite a bit of time tuning 3dman1's 2.3L motor and was never completely satisfied with the tune. One issue was that I could never get a handle on the fuel trims. They were all over the place. I suspected there was something funky with the FIC1680s, but we never experimented with different injectors. I've asked 3dman1 to get a set of FIC1100s from Jens, and we will do some tuning next week to see if the situation gets any better with his new 2L motor.

Yeah so normally fuel cools the injector body, but for some reason this particular set (FIC1680 or ID1600) requires even more cooling...

Oh well its good to get both vendors onboard and the problem being solved..

Contacted Tony at ID and he is working with me to exchange mine for ID2000's. Just removed mine tonight. I guess the 4 other packages of little items in route to try to fix my problem was a lil overkill. Oh well... I just want it to be right.
