Yea I didn't realize that it was hitting that much boost so early in 5th! I should try to see what the voltage at the pump is right when that's happening, very odd.

Ultimately the exhaust mivec changes didn't fix the problem, it kinda came back, randomly but bad enough that I reverted to my old mivec settings. I missed the torque too much!

I'm going to try to find a different intake to try, maybe even a stocker, just to see if it makes any difference.

So did you try adjusting the open loop crosover tables yet? Richening them up manually in the 100-130 load area if the car is in open loop should resolve that lean condition at initial spool. I'm assuming that is the issue you are trying to resolve, correct? It could be injectors, MAF compensation tables, intake type, fuel pump, and FPR but testing a lower open loop crossover change in the tune would tell you if it can be tuned out.

i started fine-tuning 3dman1's evo 10 last night, and he described the exact same issue. i was running out of time last night and only had him reproduce it for me. one thing i didn't have time to determine is whether its happening in open or closed loop. i wont be able to do any more logging until next week. any chance you can check on your evo? stft goes to zero in open loop, so that's what i had planned on logging.

Are you sure it's the bov making the ch-ch-ch-ch sound? I have full bolt-ons w/ the stock turbo and if I go WOT in a higher gear at 2k - 3k rpm it will produce the same sound on spool up. It's just the 3 port though, and my AFR's don't shoot lean.

Scheides knows what he's talking about; I've driven his car and can confirm it's exactly as described

Sounds like changing the open/closed-loop settings helped quite a bit though.

^-- Wondered that myself.

I am just starting out tuning my Evo using ECUFlash and the way things work are a bit different than other tuning solitions I am used too (standalones) but I am having a bit of a leaning issue in the same area since I switched to a 3 port and various adjustments have been made. I'm slowing working on the fuel map to get it richer in small steps but curious if I'm ending up having a similar issue.

Nope, we discussed via Google Talk a few days ago. I'm sure he'll get in here and update.

a- back-out mivec in the trouble area rpm under 200 load
b- adjust closed loop x-over
c- add fuel under 200 load
d- increase/smooth timing
e- add a touch in the trouble maf area
f- Smile and kill the competition!!

Well my issue was basically all lean spool related and I was finally able to get the fueling where I need it. Going to "OCD" smooth it out more but its safe and I finally upped the boost and did some timing tuning to achieve 312hp/331tq before I stopped for the night out of my 2011 with only a turbo back and 3-port. The car initial VD numbers stock were 250hp/250tq.

Next is getting the error correction to play nice as its currently disabled so I don't have over shooting and under shooting quirks.

E-Spec, what would you recommend for the open loop cross over on a stock turbo car? I am sure it would further benefit me so I am curious.

i'll likely be tuning 3dman1's evo this week, so wondering if you figured it out. no need for me to waste my time on this if you've figured out.

Best thing I've done so far is turn down the open-loop cutover from 120 load to 70-ish. This seems to have helped a ton but if I floor it in 4th or 5th it will still hiccup really bad. It's almost like compressor surge but I'm not sure that is what it actually is since it goes so lean.

I just realized about a week ago that it gets worse when more people are in the car, and when more people are in the car I'm more likely to have the AC on...gonna make sure it's not partially induced by the AC fan issue, I do not have a heat shield on my intake.

Doesn't sound like an ideal solution.
