how can i hold more boost?

ok im woundering how i can hold more boost . curently i have a full 3 " exhaust no cats, intake and upper intercooler piping with a tune my tune is making 26lbs but only holding around 15-16 lbs at redline. is there somthing in the tune that will make me hold more boost or in parts ? my buddy tuned it he said my turbo is to small to hold more boost but i was reading people spiking 23 and holding 21 on almost stock cars. can somone tell me what they think? thanks

You are flowing more air in less time through that modified exhaust... your boost will drop from a stock car even though you are making more power.

Please read and search, there are a number of topics on this. You can change your boost pill, tune your boost tables, change to a MBC or 3 port solenoid, change MIVEC, or use a number of different combinations of these methods.

Definitely an issue that any decent tuner ought to be able to fix. Are you using an MBC or ECU-controlled boost?

Stock turbo can only push so much boost by redline because of how restrictive the hot side is. If you want to hold more than 19-20 psi by redline and have it actually do something other than push hot air, buy a new turbo.

A 3 port will be your best friend.

Just because you have less boost on the top end, does not mean your making less power. As fostytou was hinting at, your car is MORE efficient than the one holding 21 psi until redline. Remember, the engine is a giant air pump;
Two cars with the same turbo, slightly different mods.
One holds 18 psi at redline, the other holds 21
The first car is more efficient (i.e. your car with the 3" exhaust has fewer restrictions, so it doesn't need to work as hard as the car holding 21 psi).
Now if you really want to, you can increase the boost, but you will LOSE power at that point (turbo is being overworked creating extra heat).

Mmmm...before you go buy anything, can I suggest you tighten the stock WGA? There seems to be some variation between various X WGA strengths. Case in point, when we were running stock configs, Jackygor's X with 2 rotations tighten on the WGA would spike at least 2-3 PSI than my car. I have mine tightened 3 or 3.5 rotations. I'm sure the instructions are floating around in the How-To section.
