TPS in 2011 gsr
TPS in 2011 gsr
Hey guys,
Sorry if you reread this over on another forum, but it's a problem in which I would appreciate any help, or at least anyone that has been experiencing this.
I have a 2011 GSR, with the following mods,
ETS Intake
ETS UICP
ETS TP
GM 3-port
Tuned by Clipse3GT.
So he has confirmed via logs, that my ECU is is telling the TPS to only allow 50% in first gear and 70% in second. It was not like this stock and was faster then. That only applies to first gear really though, as 3rd and 4th really rip. Like waaay harder than first (that's how I know it's not a boost leak). Again the logs show a clear ceiling off of power in first and second, no my car isn't knocking, and yes my asc is set to off off.
Anyone else in a tuned 2011 have this issue? There is a 'ghost' in the ECU trying to dial back power in order to save the tranny, or prevent something like the Toyota recall from happening I guess. My tuner thinks it has something to do with the brake-boosting restrictions newly implemented in the 2011's. This seems similar to the MR's tps cut in first gear. I'm at a total loss...it hits peak boost in 1st, just gets the power cut at 50%ish. It seems to be physically restricted at the butterfly valve from the ECU cutting power.
Any bypass to this, or any other 2011 owners experience this??
Thanks guys,
~freethriftyz

Hi, and welcome to the *Other Place*.
I spent a good few hours last night tearing around the 2011 GSR ROM, comparing code/tables to earlier versions... trying to get a bead on this issue of yours. Back into it this morning - it's shaping up to be the funnest New Year's Eve everrr.
Feel free to keep nagging, though - and I mean that in a NON-sarcastic way. If there's someone out there who already knows what mechanism performs a throttle-back at high boost in these 2011s, it would save me a lot of time poking around.

Well, I haven't found jack yet. And, in truth, the answer will probably come from someone far more knowledgable.
But I have a policy of always saying "yes" to beers on NYE (hic)...... so sure!

I've been self tuning my 2011 (56890010) and haven't seen this issue so far. Wish I could help with some information but am in for updates in case I ever encounter the problem.
2011's definitely have different TPS code as noted in the inability to brake boost...

did u check to make sure the 1st gear limiter table is all 100%? IDK if that would affect 2nd gear but worth a shot. I would also compare the throttle maps to a stock 2011 ROM to see if there is any difference that might cause yoour issues. I hope you get this resolved!
Thanks guys, yes I checked and first gear is indeed at 100%. My tuner is convinced it has something to do with the different tps code. We'll have it worked out soon hopefully.
itzwolf, what happens if you gently ride the rpm to 3,500ish, and then floor it? Thats when my tps cut is most noticeable. You know, like when pulling out into traffic
That's when my car gets 50%. If I get on it at 2,000 on the other hand, it flies. Why would this be?
Same goes for second gear.

I haven't seen this issue on modded 11's, even with larger turbos...
I'd start over from a stock rom and change things until you start seeing the TPS closure and then don't do that thing.

^^not what I wanted to hear or do, but probably the best bet. Thanks!
Does anyone else notice that though? No power if you hit it at ~4,000rpm? But lots of power if you hit it at 2,000? I came from a Z and was starting to think it's just an evo thing that i didn't know about.
