Over boosting - Mechanical or Tune | please help

Hello everyone

I am hoping you all can help me, I have attached a copy of a Datalog because I am getting some overboosting. I couldn't believe that it was over boosting as much as it is, I saw a peak of 33psi on the stock turbo. I am wondering if someone thats more knowledgeable about data logs could give tell me if its mechanical or the tune. He said that it looks like the wastegate maybe sticking because the computer is trying to adjust for the boost. Page 9 is full throttle application where I am overboosting.

Thank you in advance

Well, it can be a lot of thing, i saw two X that had overboosting problem such as this. Problem was solved with a grimmspeed 3-port boost solenoid. So i suppose faulty boost soleneoid.

Do a boost leak test.
What are your A\F ratio?
Also to according to your log you hit 33 psi, but load of 287 ,it should be way more than that so this make me think that you have a leak near your solenoid and\or faulty solenoid.

Sorry I should have posted mods:

I have AMS intercooler, AMS Down pipe, Specialty X cat, lite spec exhaust, Upper intercooler pipe, grimmspeed 3port, ID1000CC injectors, Cobb AP, syncronics diverter valve

I will replace the vacuum lines tomorrow, and zip tie them all down. See if that helps.

Thank you.

looks like tune.

the reactive wgdc seems rather aggressive with a 3 port. the boost spikes to 29, boost cut occurs and dips it back to 27 psi. wastegate continues to ramp so boost spikes again, this time to 31.

throw in a knock count of 25 to top it off.

for future reference i wouldnt convert these to pdf. cvs files are more friendly to those folks that might want to help.

I tried to load it as a .csv file but it said that format was not accepted. I am going to replace all the Vacuum lines and add new thread sealant to the boost controller. I dont think its going to remedy the issue but start there, worse comes to worse I get a new turbo WGA and go down to Kaizen tuning.

No its a guy out of Pennsylvania | Evans Tuning

I need to learn more about what you guys are looking at, how did you learn abou it? I am currently working 50 hours a week and have 9 credits so time is limited to learn but once I am done school I would really be interested in learning how to read datalogs.

I had the same issue , I'm not so great at this so I called my tuner , he could sworn I had a leak but it turned out I needs a tune because of my mods, anything over 30 is bad on stock , mine was boosting past 30 as well , you might just need a tune ?
Hope I was helpfull , good luck bro

Josh,

Another customer brought your thread to my attention here. I just wanted to state a few things:

1. When the car was tuned over a year ago there was no boost control issues on the dyno or road tune, nor after you left the shop. I believe boost was controlling correctly around 24-26 psi range from what I can remember.

2. I received an email on July 20th stating that you just got the car out of storage and were experiencing the overboosting issue. This was not something that was occurring prior to putting the car into storage (or at least what the email had stated).

I would like to help you get the issue resolved, but just need for you to confirm 100% that nothing mechanically has changed on the car. I did not get a response back to the last email I had sent on the 23rd. If you would like me tp help you resolve this via email please respond and I'll gladly do so.

*Edit* After looking through some more emails, did you add the aftermarket bov? If so that could allow for more boost to be built if the OEM was leaking.

Yeah no problem at all - replaced the boost lines and everything seemed to iron itself out.

I wasn't trying to run you down Jeff, I just wanted a second opinion and I am sure you can understand that.
