AP bricked my ecu

my tunner was tuning my car today, and everything went fine. after that we saved the map in cobb AP and tried to flash it to my car, however the AP dead/frozen in the middle of flashing. then my car wont turn on and he said the ECU might bricked because of that. my tuner immediately switch to opensourse and unbricked the stock map back to the ecu (thx god the car is runing again). we called cobb and ask to send in the AP for repair. in this case do i also have to send in my ECU too?

what do you think its the cause of this kinda thing happens? is the tuning itself or is the cobb device.
will it be happen again if we try to flash the new tune after it got fixed?

Maybe take the ECU to a Mitsubishi dealer (given that you don't care about warranty) and ask them to see if they can restore the ECU back to stock?

I rarely heard this kind of stories but you have reminded me and the rest that there is risk associated with Cobb AP reflashes.

Ever since my AP was updated to their newest version, it has frozen up a couple of times. Thankfully this was not during a tune flash. Not to long ago I did flash the tune and it went through as normal. But then after starting the car and getting ready to drive off, the AP randomly restarted itself.

So now when I flash a tune, I film myself doing it incase the AP decided to do something stupid. I do not believe your AP is defective, I think there is something wrong with their software. I am having other issues with my car which I think may be because of the cobb software and the AP. I am about to say screw it and go open source.

I think if you haven't yet you should post in the Cobb forums also. Maybe someone from Cobb will chime in here.
Is your AP updated to latest firmware? When you're flashing the doors are closed and you're not touching anything?

I know for me, the AP freezing up or randomly restarting itself didn't start occuring until after it was updated to the latest firmware. When I flash a tune, all doors are closed and noting is touched.

Good luck contacting Cobb. I have contacted them with other issues the car is having. They have been less than helpful. I think I am about done with cobb and am going to try an open source tune. If it clears up my issues, then IMO the cobb tuning is what is causing it.

if your ECU is working now it should be okay, or if there is another AP around you can install then uninstall it.

the ap fixed by cobb. i paid $60 +shipping to solved this problem. althought i thought this should be covered under warranty by cobb but i didnt argued too much in it because i was hurry for a tuned. now the ECU is okay. there were one bad thing after the tune, my tranny blown becuase of improper sst tune by the tuner. i ended up to put everything back to stock and the dealer honored warranty to replace the tranny without hassle.

Im currently on the latest firmware and self-tuning. Hasn't given me any problems. The cobb ap bricking the ecu rumor is farse. 95% of ap users wont ever encounter this problem. It can happen I guess whenever flashing the ECU but rare.

I've always heard good things / quick turnaround regarding Cobb and bricked ECUs. Outside of this platform as well so I never get too worried when I see this sort of thing happening from time to time.

yes, everthing is solved.
i had my tranny replaced under warranty and pay almost $100 to fixed the AP which i think should be under warranty by cobb.
