My Mechanic Made Me Paranoid
My Mechanic Made Me Paranoid
So I just got my 2011 X-MR back from the shop after a costly exhaust leak from the exhaust manifold coming loose from the block. Prior to my last track day, where the damage was done, I got a Grimspeed 3-port and a tune. Only other mod is a Walbro 255 fuel pump that came with my surge tank. My tuner set me up with a 25 PSI tune that got 295 WHP on a Dynojet. Does that seem reasonable? Is a 25 PSI tune reasonable or am I asking for trouble?
So my mechanic (i.e., shop owner) is concerned that my boost is too much. One of his techs, who seems to know more about boosted 4 bangers, thinks my problem may have been overcooking the exhaust manifold due to high AFR. Did a couple of 3rd gear pulls and boost was spot on at 25 and AFR was 11isth. I have noticed that if I go full throttle in SST-normal, boost goes to 27 for a moment, before settling at 25.
I’ve attached the tune and would appreciate any feedback.

25psi and 11s afr is totally normal and reasonable for bolt ons. I've been running 28.5 lbs on pump fuel for over a year with no issues and 30 on e85 and I have a stock motor as well. I would suspect that your mechanic doesn't know much about evos, we run much more boost than most other FI applications.
