First time Tuner !!!
Hey evo guys, I live in cali and the smog laws are making it hard for car lovers to have fun. I want to learn how to reinstall and download software for tuning. What system is recommended? can I use MAC book air? what should i know before i start to tune the car? any tips will be greatly appreciated!!!
Welcome!
I'll link a bunch of really good resources below. There are a couple outstanding members here who will be able to help you with specific questions along the way so don't be shy posting!
This is pretty much the definitive guide to tuning the Evo X ECU:

You're going to need one of these:

You'll need this to tune:

And this to log:

And here's a 16-part video primer on ECU Flash

Thanks man, so i tried posting on the evo scan website it said the page was closed due to scam mail. I am curious if this will work with my mac book air? i have watch alot of videos and i havnt seen one with a macbook? i also was wondering if i due flash my car with a tune can i reflash back to the original stock tune so i can pass california smog when my time is up?
You also need to log AFR.
My laptop had only 1 usb, so I got a 1 to 2 splitter for data.
this one works, I use it myself.
And this cable allowed me to convert my serial to USB.
If you have an AEM AFR gauge already, get this output cable if you don't already have one.
This allowed me to easily wire in from my AEM gauge output.

And beep bop boop, you're ready to go.

Awesome thanks guys super helpful. So if I learn how to do this, would I be able to flash and reflash my car as many times as I want? I really only need two flashes. My stock flash to pass smog and my tuned flash to have fun? So this will be done every two years in my case ?
Yep should work fine. I've flashed my car probably 9 times in the past 2 weeks.
Just be really sure your battery voltage is good, and your connections are tight.
If your battery is weak, hook a charger to it. The cooling fan will come on during the reflash, and electric cooling fans are a significant load on the electrical system. I'm usually at 11.3v during a flash with the fan running.

Really good advice. Loosing too much voltage mid-write can brick your ECU. Jumper packs work well too if you don't have access to a higher-amp plug in charger.
I got the below stuff and it works great for. EVO Scan, ECU flash, Team viewer and Mega log viewer , and AF logging.

the gauge is great with the digit read out for boost and AF, easy to read and is not small at all to see while driving,
