What should i choose?
What should i choose?
Next month i will be finally getting the tune for me car. I talked to my tunner and he says i have a choice between open ecu and ecutek flash. Theres about a couple hundred dollar difference between the two, and i was wondering which is better? I want more power and something that will be great for a daily driver too.
Well this will either get moved or closed but before that happens:
Go with Open ECU, no reason to go with ECUtek, it was great before ECUflash took over but OpenECU is better now and cheaper.

EcuTek is a company that sells its professional tuning tools to shops so that they can use it tune your car. Since its proprietary, you cannot see how your car is actually tuned. It does give a lot of options to tune the car as well since EcuTek actually partners with Mitsubishi to develop the software.
OpenEcu(also called EcuFlash) on the other hand is semi-free(made by the company Tactrix http://www.tactrix.com ). The software itself is free but you'll need to buy the connector for it if you want to tune and log by yourself. If all you want is a tune, the professional tuner you go to will have the connector. You'll only have to pay the tuner for his services. The tune itself can be left unlocked so that you can see how the car is tuned for yourself on a computer when you feel comfortable with that sort of thing.
In the end, the majority of the community prefers ECUFlash because its more open in nature and you can post your maps online if you're having trouble with the car. You cannot do this with EcuTek. They do not provide any kind of end-user support or allow you to tinker with the tune. You also have to pay a license fee to them when you get tuned the first time (This is usually included in the quote you get).

What they said..... but your tuner may be able to dial it in more quickly with ecutek. If the price is the same I would go with openECU. There should be no difference if the tuner is capable with both pieces of software.
