Running an AEM Intake without the top cover?

Hello EVO Community,

I had a question is in regards to my intake setup. If my car is fully tuned with an AEM Setup with the cover on, would there be any lean or knock issues if I ran the intake setup without the top cover? I understand that the air temps will be hotter like an open element. Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Although I have no personal experience doing this or seeing somebody do it, I imagine your IAT (Intake Air Temp) readings would be enough for the ecu to adjust timing as needed. However, it may not make much of a difference, as the intercooler is the final say in the temp of air that goes in the motor. The hotter the air, the faster it looses heat in the intercooler core, so mathematically speeding the change should be marginal.

In my opinion, I have no facts or experience to back this up.

Tried it, ran like crap so I put it back on immediately. If you want the sound of recirc, get an ETS or AMS and a retune. The whole point of the AEM is to be closed and offer a ton of cool air.
