EVO X break in period?
sup guys, couple questions, so im new to the "EVO" world, went from 3 rsx's to a tsx and now the EVO X, im reading dfferent things about the 1st oil change, how do i know whos right? Also what is the PSI at while its being "broken in" and what does it go up to afterwards?
thanks

Dont forget the cams guys.
Cosworth told me to hold the idle at startup to about 2000 for 20 mins with cooling fans etc. That was solely to break in the cams. Cams do not like to be broken in at low rpms.
They said go ahead and do the full tuning right after that. They also said to first prime the oil pump by disconecting the crank trigger until oil press is registered on the guage (which took about 10 secs of cranking).
After this break in and about 10 miles of dyno tuning, we went straight to the track and have had no problems.
Has anyone here ever had an issue with their motor that is truly traceable to poor break in?
BTW, motocross bikes (no factory warranty, period!) suggest 1 hour of medium use for a new motor and only 15 mins for a new piston/rings assy.

went to to a local car meet last night , talkin to guy that recently got a evo x and had a evo VIII, he said that the evo x boosts 12lbs, then at 1000 miles it goes up to 14lbs, then at 1500 it goes to 16lbs and at 2000 to goes up to 18lbs.........................??
the important thing during the breakin period is not to baby the engine. do a lot of engine breaking.
read this site. its quite informative. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

So... Opinions on a brutal first 20 miles, then oil change?
??? Can anyone confirm this? A boost gauge at low miles will confirm this.
Well, as far as my break in goes, I did a lot of half throttle accel and plenty of decel for the first 50 miles, keeping it at or below 4500 rpm. Then, I did some 3/4 throttle pulls to 5k rpm but not over for next 50 miles, and occasionally did some full throttle bursts to 5k rpm. When I hit 200 miles, I did fequent full throttle pulls to 5k rpm, and did lots of decel from that mark. I just made sure to vary the rpms as much as possible even on the highway, downshifting and then upshifting when not even necessary just to mix things up as much as possible. I did more and more full throttle pulls as time went on, but never over 5k rpms. After the break in of 600 miles, I started easing into 6k for about 50 miles, then 6.5k, and 7k a couple times over the next 50 miles. Then after about 700 miles I started doing some full throttle bursts to 7k progressively more and more. I did this until about 1000 miles, varying the rpms and load as much as possible, basically continuing that aspect of the break in period even past the necessary 600 mile mark. I have about 1100 miles on my car now, and it runs like a dream. I think that this is the best way to break in a motor, and that the mr moto's method is a bit too rough. I think that babying the car is not good either, so I would say that my method is a halfway point between the two. Extremes on either side of the fence are not good.
