*PICS* Prototype Velocity Stack from Cobb Tuning

Just got these sneak pictures of the new prototype velocity stack for the EVO X from Cobb Tuning.

The color of the piece is not how the production piece will be.

Cobb is able to do this with a in house rapid prototyping machine. (engineers drool here) While this piece is very fragile they are still able to run it on a vehicle and get actual numbers on what a production piece would do. So they are able to go through many different designs cheaply and have real life testing.

What does this mean for you? Just some of the best performing and priced products for your brand new car.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will answer them for you. Or I do know a couple of the cobb guys lurk around the forum and may chime in with some info.

When our car is properly broken in we will get it on the dyno for further testing/development. Thanks for all those checking in on us and for the support!

You wouldn't exactly be able to see the design of the velocity stack with the filter on... unless you had x-ray vision. Otherwise, you'd just have a picture of a filter, nothing new there and no engineering knowledge involved.

Yeah, you are correct. I just wanted to show you the development of the velocity stack itself. We will be testing various filter sizes and shapes to get the best possible flow with as minimal turbulence as possible.

Keep checking back for further updates!

Looks good, those rapid prototyping machines are sweet, we got to use them last semester.

Yeah, they are nice to have around! You can test fit your CFD design right away. Here is a pic of our rapid prototype machine...

I think that is an intercooler end tank in the machine in the image there. The machine on the right is the actual 3D printer. The box on the left is where you get the excess "dust" material off of your part. There is a vacuum in there that recycles the "dust" material back into the printer.

I need to ask our engineers what the material is actually called. If I remember correctly, its a substance like concrete powder.

It looks like a Selective Laser Sintering rapid prototype to me. So it's thermoplastic.
