Out of sheer curiosity

Im assuming so, but just thought I'd double check. We can, if we so chose to, bolt the MR's 2 piece break system\suspension setup right onto a GSR correct?

The stock MR 2-piece rotors may be 4#'s lighter than the GSR rotors, but they still have pillar vanes, meaning they won't be AS effective as an aftermarket rotor like Girodisc, with their curved veins for effectively pulling the air out. Also, thinking of cost, seeing as these are an OEM item, and being made by Brembo, I could see them being very expensive. I know in talking to Martin @ Girodisc his Evo X 2-piece rotors will cost about the same as the VIII-IX rotors, $700.

Just my thoughts...

The 2 piece MR rotors are in stock at dealerships now and can be interchanged on the GSR. The list price is approx $550 each.

A two piece disc brake uses a aluminum "hat", which makes the whole rotor lighter, which is unsprung weight.

Are there 2 part numbers? I use the Stoptech 2 Piece rotors and I can just order the Rotor when they wear out for $150 each and then replace the worn rotor part on the existing aluminum hat. Is this possible on the MR 2 Piece? If not I'd rather wait for a Stoptech replacement and besides their Vane system is the best known to man.

Braking proved to be a dead heat among all three entrants, with the Mitsubishi Evo GSR and the Subaru WRX STI stopping from 60 mph in 112 feet and the Mitsubishi Evo MR a scant 1 foot shorter.
I cant see 1 foot shorter being worth $916.

The advantage with 2 piece rotors isn't with stopping distance. It's weight savings.

It has nothing to do with making the car stop better. It makes the rotor lighter, gettin rid of some unsprung weight. If you dont know how important that is, go read.

This reminds me of big brake kits too. People always think that stopping distance is gonna shortened, but really you just get more resistance to fade and such.

Actually one of the key advantages, besides unsprung weight savings, is how the rotor behaves in high heat situations. When a one-piece cast iron rotor gets really hot (track use) it expands, but because of the odd shape, when it expands it also distorts/cups which can cause other problems with pad wear, caliper piston side angle load, etc.

Two-piece rotors are designed such that the outer cast iron rotor can expand independent of the the aluminun hat and since it has a uniform shape it just grows larger as it heats up without distorting and causing problems mentioned above.

Different companies have different solutions for creating a fastening system that allows the differing materials to expand and move relative to each other. Some of these systems make noise over bumps and can be annoying for street use. Most have found ways to make the connection without the noise since a lot of the two piece designs have found there way to high performance OEM applications in recent years.
