Buschur Racing heads to the drag strip with the EVO X

Well the tracks are finally open and we took the car out to D42 tonight.

Here is what is done:

2008 EVO X
3568 pounds without driver

BR 3" Catback
BR offroad pipe
BR manual boost controller
BR MAF pipe
BR filter kit
BR Race FMIC
BR Upper i/c pipe
BR lower i/c pipe
Ported exhaust manifold and turbine housing
STOCK unported 02 housing
STOCK downpipe
STOCK fuel pump
STOCK tires/wheels
STOCK TUNE
KW Coil overs
Robi Spec alignment
93 octane gas only, ever, NO race gas or octane boosters have EVER been in the tank of this car
23 psi of boost maximum as that is where the factory fuel cut hits

Best ET was a 12.70 flat
Best MPH was 111.40 mph

Remember, NO tuning so we are dealing with 9:1 AFR's, fuel cut limiter etc.

We finally have tuning software so I expect these numbers to improve drastically within the next few weeks.

The clutch is weak. First run it slipped like mad. Trent was driving and ended up getting a 1.79 sixty foot time out of it which was the 12.70 pass.

Considering the weight of the car and the lack of tuning, the MPH is pretty darn good.

This is a decent start.

Hahahaha! 12.7 with just those bolt ons? I don't even see the FMIC on the list. That is awesome.

God damn it! the clutch part is going to make me cry.

Sorry, I edited the post and put the FMIC on.

What do i think of the car? I really like the car but it is a completely different machine than the EVO8-9's were. I really do not see this car being a huge drag strip terror, which will make many people happy who have never thought of them as drag cars anyway. The cornering is greatly improved over the 8'9's. The gearing SUCKS for the drag strip. Even at 111 mph it is very close to the rev limiter in 4th gear. It will have to be raised or the gearing changed to go much faster.

I spent the last 3 days at Mid Ohio road racing the car in the rain mostly. AWESOME!!!

I like the car a lot but I like it in a different way than how I like the EVO8-9. Kind of hard to put in words.

Congrats David!

Those are very respectable times and traps considering there has been no tuning whatsoever. I can't wait to see how much it wakes up with a tune and raising the 2step. Car looked real good going down the track.

That's great. About time you got that car to the strip. The tuning potential is looking really good!!

I see Al is up 30 whp already in tuning on their car with less parts than we are running. I am overnighting the ECU from our car to Al tomorrow. Be nice to see some good gains like that on ours. The clutch is a weak link on our car now for sure. I have no concerns on running some race gas in the car or raising the boost further than it is. We just need the AFR's in the mid 11's instead of the mid 9's.

To give you guys an idea how rich this car runs, this weekend while road racing at Mid Ohio, I used an ENTIRE tank of fuel in (3) 20 minute sessions. That means at today's fuel prices it cost me about $45 to race for 60 minutes using 93 octane. The entire back of the car is covered in black soot. It's freaking rich.

Nice work Dave.. Im sure once dialed in youll pick up the MPH and drop the ET no problem.. i agree with you as far as it being a "different" machine than the 8 or 9.. ill be holding onto my 03 for drag racing for as long as i can..

I agree with you that this car is much less sorted to drag racing than the VIIIs and IXs. The gearing is bad, the clutch is just awful, and its lots heavier. I think with a taller tire, about 400 more RPM when EcuTeK supports it a bit later, a good aftermarket clutch, and some weight reduction, it should be a lot nicer.

Good job getting out there and showing what it can do with no tuning at all! You might think that 60' sucks, but it is the best one I have seen out of a stock X clutch. Congrats.
