Ultimate Racing Test & Downpipe Review

Parts arrived quickly from Darryl @ Ultimate Racing, were packaged nicely.
I went with the resonated testpipe and downpipe w/ wideband bung.

Welds are awesome, the craftsmanship looks top notch. And also they are much lighter then the stock pieces.

Pre-install (2 weeks ago) I installed my ETS Dual Exhaust. It is loud, deep and mean.
Now that it is mated with the 3" downpipe and resonated test pipe it is much deeper, and isn't quite as loud on the high end. The rumble of the exhaust can be felt from the driver seat.

If you look at the UR testpipe you will notice an angled O2 bung, there solution to a CEL. So far, I have not gotten a CEL.

Installation

To remove the Downpipe, you must remove the stock cross brace under the car, two 12mm bolts, and two 14mm bolts.

Now getting to the spring bolts of the downpipe are a nightmare!
I used a half inch rachet, with a swivel, 4" extender and 8" extender. The bolt on the driverside was quite easy, you can see it and can aim the rachet in and get to it. The passenger side proved to be quite a pain. I found it helpful to have an extra set of hands working above holding the socket in place.

Removal of the 02 sensors on the stock cat and downpipe required quite a bit of elbow grease to get out.

Testpipe was straight forward.

Parts cost $458 shipped, and are well worth the price

I have these waiting to go in. I took one look at that driver's side spring DP bolt and stopped the whole thing. I'm waiting until I am at the shop with a lift.
NIGHTMARE. What the heck was Mitusbishi thinking?

I can't wait to get mine on. I got the same stuff, but with the mini muffler in the test pipe instead of the resonated one.

I should have tuned dyno numbers on them this coming weekend.

When you removed the factory downpipe, do the springs and bolts stay retained in the downpipe or do they fall out once the bolts are removed? Thanks.

Nice review, I like the way they have a variety of test pipes available. Glad to see that you like it.

Very nice ordered the straight test pipe from Ultimate Racing on Friday morning. Looking forward to it coming it and got the wide band bung option. Do you have any sound clips of it all bolted up now with the new downpipe/test pipe? Thanks ~Trent

I got mine finished tonight. Its really not that hard with a swivel at all. It looks more intimidating than it actually is. I ended up using a super long extension and a medium sized one for the win.

So now I have a full Ultimate Racing turbo-back with mini muffler in the test pipe section. The car is a bit louder under WOT, but the mini muffler helps deaden the sound a lot. Butt dyno doesn't feel a gain, since the tune was optimized for a cat-back. Going to remap this coming weekend.

Thanks Noize for that tip . I went with the UR metal catted test pipe (a bit more than the ceramic one but better flow) and their Downpipe. I have the test pipe and now waiting for the DP to get to the west coast

UR ftw. good welds and a price you can't beat

I also got the downpipe/testpipe/catback, and i must say, Ultimate Racing is the best

Installation wasn't a problem, the welds are nice, the performance is incredible, and it sounds wicked. Very satisfied, would recomend.
