Steering Response Is SLOW On MY EVO X

Hi everyone,

The steering on my evo is acting up. Before it started acting up, the steering was quick, responsive and the car felt planted on the road. NOW, it feels sluggish and slow (compared to before) and it just doesn't compare to how it used to be. Bumps upset the car *very* easily and it feels like the steering wheel has no control to the shaft.

I *tried* to install the audio controls on the steering wheel before it started acting up.

I disconnected the airbag and horn and stopped after taking out the airbag because it was dark already. Only then did I realize (glanced at the turned on interior lights ) that I forgot to disconnect the battery. Could this have caused all this??

I installed the audio controls next morning (after disconnecting the battery.) The lack of steering feel was still there so I went on plenty of drives to figure out the problem. I felt wobbling from the tires so checked the pressure and it was 55psi front and 60psi back . I'm glad they didn't blow up. Damn problem still exists!

I think this problem has nothing to do with opening up the steering wheel. I probably damaged some part of the shaft or something.

What do you think is causing this?? Thanks for reading and I appreciate your input.

I would check to see if the tires are damaged from running 60 psi.

No, it started doing this after the install. I've gone over everything I've done which might lead to this.

1. Disconnecting the airbag harness and honk and unscrewing the airbag while the battery is connected.
AND
2. The left-side of the front bumper did get damaged when I went over a slight parallel slope on the highway. The front bumper is about an 1" lower meaning a support or two are broken or damaged.

I don't know how to measure the torque (?) while using the wrench. I tightened it making sure not to over-tighten.

How do you measure the torque when using the wrench?

I thought the same thing about mine the other day, and then realized I had gotten used to it. Same reason it doesnt feel as fast anymore.

you can call to find out which one is it, ft lbs, or in lbs. and probably rent a torque wrench from Auto Zone. Good Luck

There is a steering wheel sensor on the steering wheel for SAWC, I am not sure if that is the cause. Even there is some problem with sensor it should have trigger the warning light
