evoX gsr 5 speed

So i just purchased my silver GSR base.
I have driven honda's before and those transmissions are like butter.
i am new to awd drive but is it normal for the shifts to sometimes be not so smooth....feels like something is blocking the gearbox or something. it engages fine but just not butter smooth

thanks

Hopefully I won't have the same issue as you, I've got an 07 Si and that transmission is smooth as silk! I've also got a RR 08 GSR on order scheduled for delivery on the 6th. I'm hoping it's smoove too.

It just takes a little bit to break in. After a couple months mine was much better.

Fluids also make a large difference in the feel of the transmission. For example in my evo IX I always use the oem diaqueen because it always feels the best and protects very well.

Does anyone have a write up on how to change the tranny fluid? Where is the drain and fill up hole and how much? Also will Red Line MT-90 work? I have extra bottles laying around the shop and I don't want to buy new stuff if it works....

A Mitsu tranny will never be anywhere near the same level of smoothness of a Honda tranny. It's just the way it is. Honda's shift engagement and feel is ahead of everyone else.

I went from an RSX type S to this EVO X. At first the tranny is like this and it got better as I drove it...that or I got used to it lol.

Well I kind of made a more uhh, how do you say, roller coaster of transmissions. I've always been used to the notchyness and gritty feel of a DSM transmissions in the 15 1g and 2g's I've owned since I've been driving... then I bought the 07 Si and I was blown away with how smooth it shifts. Took the 08 GSR out for a test drive... It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but it wasn't anywhere near the Si's smoothness.

Luckily, I get to keep the Si when the GSR arrives, so I'll have the best of both worlds.

Can't compare to the slickness of Honda shifters sorry but no comparison. Yeah the cable linkage is a bit notchy but you get used to it. I have not had any grinding at all. Just some resistance occasionally going into gear. Never misses though and I am very gentle with it. It is light and relatively short throw. In line with other cable shifters I've driven and not bad considering the transmission's stoutness and AWD drivetrain.

I have a IX MR and the shifting should feel better than what it has always been like. I know how you feel. It feels good when shifting, but not great. It's my first standard transmission and I feel the same way you do....even though I've owned my Evo for over a year.
