when i say gone... i meant gone. I made sure for several days before making the post that it was in fact gone....
I had hoped that a majority of people had theirs go away, but its looking more and more that i just got lucky that mine was gone. i feel bad for the people that still have the notchiness as it is a pleasure to shift quickly not having to worry if im going to miss the shift anymore. I remember back on my 1st gen GSX, that car shifted great and everytime. that was another car i was lucky to not have a bad tranny.
lol maybe i should just pick out everyones car for them from now on :P

mine is still notchy especially when cold and when shifting at lower rpms.
sucks.
when it is cold in the morning i shift slowly and you can feel the synchros tapping lightly in order to mesh. i'd rather do that until it is warm rather than rrrrr crunch rrrrrrrrrr crunch rrrrrrrr snick rrrrrrr snick. (sound effects free of charge)

EDIT: Also it seems that the 7500 miles is the break in period for the X's Tranny.
Just over 6k miles and still notchy, but it's mildly better. I have just adapted my shifitng technique to give it what it wants. If it makes anyone feel better, the new RUF CTR3 with 700 hp (which costs mid 600k) has a notably rough tranny that sounds even worse than the X. The article in Road and Track said that if gears aren't selected very firmly that it crunches and howls at you, much like the X's tranny. I've noticed since day one that if you shift the gears with a little force that they drop in just fine. It's when you shift at a more liesurely rate that it crunches. It just goes with the territory I suppose; beefy trannies that are meant for serious abuse are a little rough but you just get used to it.
If anything, mine's more notchy than when I got it. It started out being notchy into just 2 and 3, but now it's notchy into 4 also. It may be worse because it's cold.
In any case, it's certainly not getting better. I have 8k miles.

i still driving the best transmission i ever got from Mitsubishi, period.
Even the stock clutch is awesome! with over 300 whp and wtq on both /mustang and dynojet/ dyno.

It sounds more like they made a poor choice on what gear oil they're running, especially for cold starts. Has anyone other than the one who mentioned redline tried other gear oils? I bet this would solve a lot of peoples problems. I'm planning to buy an 09 version of the car and my first modification is going to be swapping to redline or amsoil gear oil.

But hey the girls seem to like it! haha
