Poor idle WITH heatshield?

Hi all,

It's not a huge problem, but it makes me feel retarded when I'm at a stoplight.

I got the AEM intake, in an effort to avoid idle issues and have nice, cool air to my open element filter. However, it still idles so poorly!

What's worse, and which I can't explain, is the A/C makes it worse. I know that the problem is apparently the fan blowing into the filter, but that shouldn't be happening in the box!

Of course, I know aftermarket intake should have tuning, but I'm not ready yet. Anybody have any ideas?

I should take a video to show how ridiculous it is... brutal.

Oh, and yes, I allowed the ECU to reset after installation. I'm thinking about doing it again. Also, as far as I know, I have the second reflash. However, I'm going to see if I can confirm that they did the second flash, not the first.

Thanks in advance!

i think it has something to do with the power coming from the battery. not enough power? because the only time i get the idle problem is when i turn on the AC, but its not as bad as what you have.

bottom line is you should not have an intake on the car without getting it tuned. Because its bad? - no .... because it gives you 0 power and makes your car run poorly. Take it off until you are ready for a tune. It's similiar to putting a BOV on the car to hear the super cool noise it makes

Bit of an "Update". I took some videos with my lame cell phone. You'll get the idea, anyway.

No AC (When I took this one, there wasn't really any issue. Maybe car was cool enough?)
Turned AC On (Listen close, you can hear the beep!)
This is with the hood open. When AC is turned on, the huge jumps do not occur. However, it's still not as smooth as without AC

I realize that I need a tune. However, there was a detectable power gain and even a improved fuel mileage. I was enjoying it!

its from the fan kicking on and off when the a/c is on. Have you got any of the reflashes?

Well, the dealer told me they gave me the reflash. However, I can honestly say I'm not positive. However, the fan kicking in shouldn't be upsetting the filter that is in the box, should it?

if u are running the aem system, no the fan won't effect it. There has been a lot of reflashes that are out, how long ago did you get one?

I got the reflash on Aug 12, 2008.

The service statement says:

13850190 ECM REFLASH EVO
7310 W

Whatever that means. It doesn't match up with the TSBs, so I don't know.

Sorry, I didn't mean for this to be a noob question. I was hoping it would be something I could patch up. I didn't want to run to the dealer, complaining of rough idle, and having a shiny new intake in the engine bay. Though, our dealer is fairly good about it.

you need to read my post again, and your problem will be solved. I can garentee your intake is doing nothing but making a cooler noise than stock at this point. Take it off until you get a tune....

I understand your point Trail Slide, I'm not debating the fact that the tune is essential.

However, the AEM Intake does have significant gains without a tune, likely due to leaning out the disgustingly rich AFRs on the stock X. I wouldn't have bought it for sound alone. Though, I do appreciate the fact that some people get intakes for this reason. The AEM is barely louder than stock anyway!

My issue is with the fact that not everybody with this intake is complaining about this problem. Just moi. I was wondering if it was because I was the only one, or if people were just being quiet. So far, it appears to be just me.

Wrong.. There have been serveral posts on here clearly showing nice gains from just the intake alone..because it leans up the fuel mixture..of course there is more to gain from the tune..but saying that it gives you 0 power...is wrong. You need to make sure you know what your talking about before you call someone out and give wrong adive..Mr Ive been here before people knew what an evo was.....

i've been running the aem intake for 2 weeks along with the full nisei pipe kit. i have not experienced that problem, make sure you have the up to date tunes. also check to make sure all connections are tight. if you have doubts, take the intake off and test it and see if it does the samething

LOL go put a intake on a stock turbo car to lean it out while your at it put on a BOV because it's boosted as well. The car will run GREAT! Power or not, the car is running like crap because of a intake
