Evo X Initial Cam Testing--Agency Power Kelford Cams

Hello,

I was going to wait until tomorrow to post this but I cannot go to sleep so I might as well just do this now.

We put some cams in Vivid Racing's Evo X and did a small amount of testing on them before the car went to paint. (SEMA)

I really needed a bit more time to get some testing done but initial numbers were pretty good. I did a quick baseline on the car before we did the cams. The car was not running a lot of boost ( around 19-20psi) but the cams showed a decent gain.

I am sure all of you want some details on the cams so here they are:

These will be branded as Agency Power cams manufactured by Kelford. We have 2 sets that are getting tested. One set is for bigger turbo cars, like this one, and the other set is for stock turbo cars.

These are just prototypes for now.

We were not too sure on the piston to valve clearance so there is not much Mivec in this tune. I really like the Mivec and have found great power gains from it, but I just did not feel like bending any valves before the car goes to SEMA lol.

I am going to be testing the other set tomorrow, well in the morning and we shall see how they do. I can not for the life of me remember the specs of the cams, I will have to report back in the morning with those details.

As soon as the car comes back and I have a bit more time with it I will try and get some better numbers and get the Mivec dialed back in. I can tell you that is a big part of why it loses spool and torque in the first part of the power band. All said and done I would guess gains of around 30+ whp.

Thanks and I shall report back in the morning with more info.

Thanks for reading,

Mitch Mckee

What are the degrees & lift of the cams?

Looks like you have the street cams dialed in alot better than the first set.

He used a different baseline dyno run in the graph for the street cams than he did with the other cams... not sure why but it makes direct comparison a pain in the ***.

These are two different cars with two different cam set ups.. I guess I do not see why there is confusion.

The setup on a car has a huge amount to do with the results of new parts testing / comparison.

If I take a stock car and put a GT-35R on it with back to back dyno runs, and another car will full exhaust, intake, and intercooler mods and put a GT-30R turbo on it, and do back to back dyno runs with me running them both at 25 psi on the dyno the GT-30R will not only beat the 35R low end, it will also beat the peak power of the 35R... so I would be missled into thinking the 30R has more top end potential than the 35R.

When you do cam testing, and you use two different cars with different setups you can get the same kind of skewed results.

The first dyno it shows that gains on one end and looses in the other??? I dont see the benefit her? The second one looks alot better.

Maybe the first set needs bigger turbo.

I have had a few days to test these street cams and I am very surprised and pleased with actual on street power and response. Current mods on car are Intake, UICP, Exhaust including Test Pipe, MBC, Walbro pump, on crappy 91 Octane and no meth kit yet. Both before and after dyno pulls has been tuned by Mitch. This is a very conservative tune as the car is used as a DD on this crap gas and in extreme summer heat of Arizona. The torque and acceleration feel amazing and really pushes you back in seat more than you would expect on stock turbo mildly tuned. The best thing about these cams is at idle is smooth similar to stock and you can’t tell you have them. At WOT the entire RPM range has dramatically increased power and response. Once I am able to hold boost better the higher RPM gains will obviously show better gains as well. These street cams seem to be the perfect match someone that is not going to go full race and stick with a smaller size turbo. My goal is to have reliable daily driver reach 400HP+, and these cams made it that much easier with no down sides to be seen (other than making me spend more money on gas getting me to work 10 minutes earlier each day lol).
