That is still a Hydro-Cracked oil only allowed to call itself synthetic by law...

99% of the people on these boards only use their cars as daily drivers. Mine included although I do go to the Glendora Mountain/Ridge Roads from time to time (went earlier today, and last week - lol). Mitsubishi manual states 5K for oil changes so I'm sticking with it (although I'm replacing the OIL filter every OIL change) - I'm only going to replace it earlier during HPDE events.

Castrol Syntec 0w30 Made in Germany is PAO based full synthetic unlike their US made counterparts. Lots of people have done oil analysis is bobistheoilguy forums and everyone that's has used this oil are very happy with it.

I'll get an OIL analysis done (blackstone labs) when I hit 25K (just changed the oil last week at 20K) and will post results then

I have a funny anecdote related to mobil one:
I was in Miami on a business trip and during a conversation with my taxi driver he brought up that he had a taxi (think it was a crown vic) with 975K miles on it still running with no major engine problems or rebuilds - he attributed the lack of problems and longevity to religious 3K Mobil 1 oil changes. His other tax had 350K with similar success. Granted it's probably a lot of highway miles , not hi performance driving, and such, but that was a pretty impressive testimonial.

Not so impressive if you think that he is using a Premium Synthetic and 3K changes.

My Ford Heavy 3/4 ton work van has almost 345,000 miles with oil changes done between 25,000 and 43,000 miles most of it's life (On AMSOIL)... Has been run very hard, towed a 18' Equipment Trailer many miles (and still does), has been overheated at least 6 times to where the engine has locked up (failed water pump in the Mountains towing the overloaded trailer).

Has never had any internal work or even injectors done and runs nice and smooth.

The original auto tranny only made it just over 120K on Petroleum fluid.. The rebuilt in it now has gone over 220K on AMSOIL with half of those miles on the "Improper" Fluid and still running that fluid.

Years ago, AMSOIL did some tests on NYC Taxi's where the drain plug was welded in and 65K put on them without changing oil... Tear downs were done and no appreciable wear was found over Taxi's that had 3K Changes performed...

I need an oil that will keep my engine running for years to come as well, not just one that will give me 5 horses and decrease the life of my engine.

What oil would you recommend?

(If you said Enos) What kind, 0W 50 or 5W 40?

P.S. I live in Utah so it gets really cold over here during the winter, if that makes a difference.

Thanks

I have known several in Taxi Fleet Vehicles to go beyond the 1 Million Mark...1 was a Checker.

But you have to consider what side of the story I come from... I have dealt with oils for over 35 yrs now and specifically with AMSOIL for almost 25 yrs.
Although not common place, because most will never keep the vehicle that long, it is not unusual..

I lost track of the gentleman, but he was the owner of a 454 Chevy Pickup with 875,000 miles on it. All with AMSOIL... Using extended drain intervals..

Just like my very abused work van... Overheated to where it locked up at least 6 times. Has 345,000 on it and still pulls a heavy 18' trailer... Oil changes at 25-43,000 miles.

I heard Royal Purple is amazing but it will cost you almost 10 bucks a bottle of Quart.

Royal Purple is far from amazing, unless you meant amazingly poor..

Shears out of grade in the first sequence of a 3 sequence test..

But hey, gives you more HP that way.. Less protection, More HP..

Motul 300V is not a bad oil .

It does have some drawbacks being an Ester based product.

Let me know if you would like to try our Racing Dominator oil.

I was surprised myself when a guy Dyno'd his bike on the 40 wgt oil and then trying to set AMSOIL up for failure by switching to the Dominator 50 and the bike gained 3 HP.. On a 90 HP bike, that is a heck of a gain. Especially when he was running a thinner oil for the previous run.
