The truth about BOV's

Do they ACTUALLY do any harm? I've heard the same stuff that an atmospheric BOV will be bad since I had an 03' WRX, 04 STi, and now the Evo X. I had an SSQV on my WRX pretty much the whole time I owned it and I never noticed any problems (also had Perrin UP, DP, Blitz CBE, and UTEC).

Are there any solid FACTS about the BOV on the Evo X or any recirculative BOV systems? I have an Agency BOV that came with my car (stock BOV is on it now) when I bought it and I'm considering putting it back on for the hell of it.

Thanks!

-X

i heard that the stock BOV is actually really good. If you want the BOV for the sound just get a intake. i might be wrong though, i'm a newbie with cars T_T

does anyone know where i can learn about the evo x and maybe cars in general? Like how the engines work, what components make up a car, etc...

You can deffinately damage your car if you don't set the spring pressure correctly. If the spring doesn't release when it's supposed to it will cause damage to the turbo wheel and bearings. If the spring pressure is to low then it will open under WOT and you will loose power. The stock unit is very good from what I've heard.

The stock DV is fine up to at least 25 psi, probably more. Unless you are going beyond 26 psi or you really like the BOV sound, stick with stock.

can anyone confirm with proper AFR reading/logging software that it does in fact go pig rich in between shifts from not recirculating air thats already passed by the MAF?

i've had my hks set up both ways, vta at first and now recirculating. with the exception of periodic moments of eratic idling at first with it vta, i haven't noticed any changes in drivability either way.

Mojito, does your SSQV come with the recirculation kit? If so, does it fit to the AEM inlet tube?

No, it does not come with the recirculation kit, only with adaptor for it. This adaptor fits the AEM pipe.

Maybe some people (like me) enjoy that good old phssssh sound of a VTA BOV.

To each their own.

based on my wideband which is pegged out on the rich side at 10.0 you can't tell on a stock car at stock boost levels. it just seems to stay pig rich longer than it does with the recirc bov on the car. as you turn up the boost it leans it out more through the rpm range and it does go back to pig rich once you get off the gas. can't say it does any "Harm" but it does make you much richer coming off throttle.

i actually run a tial 50mm and switched to a blow through setup to keep this from happening.
