CornFed-F.P.Red Evo X??
Corn-fed Evo X FP-Red & E85 ??
OK I’m seriously considering being the guinea pig E85 powered Evo-X when I install my FP Red next month (unless someone has already done it, that is). It looks to me like this would be a killer combination in the hands of a capable tuner (AMS), but I’m still cautious for obvious reasons:
1) It’s a daily driver year round. Reliability is essential in all weather, especially considering the whole voided warranty piece.
2) We all know the main shortcoming of E85 is accessibility. It’s in my area (albeit a bit out of the way), but there are still a lot of places in the country that I can’t reach by hoping ethanol stations. Locust storms wiping out Iowa might be a concern too, but I guess I’ll take my chances on that.
3) Is there a way to switch maps back to 93oct. without an Accessport or similar? I’ve heard something about *Tephra v5 map-switching* on older Evos, but not sure if that would work on the X.
4) Fuel economy. No issues here. I fully expect 15MPG, but compare that to other 500HP cars in this price range… Oh wait…
All that said, I’m really looking forward to the possibilities of 100+ octane. Does anyone know if E85 has been tried yet (with or without success)? I haven’t heard of it at all on an X.
Thanks for any suggestions, reality checks or help in making this happen.

Interested as well since I have been running E85 on my IX and plan on doing this same thing with my X (FP Red already ordered). On my IX with an FP Green I was getting between 16-18mpg on E85 so my mileage only dropped 3-4mpg. I also had the map switching and though the X ecuflash tuning is not to the same point as the VIII/IX, I am fairly certain that it is a possibility.
Sweet, I'm 3 blocks from a E85 station. Whats the down side to E85 besides the milage? I have my FP on order do I need any different fuel components to run E85? Thanks for the info. Good luck
Hey Nate, there's quite a bit of E85 info on here for the last gen. Evos. Like I said, I don't believe anyone has tried it in an X yet, so take this with a grain of salt. With the FP Red and E85 I think you will minimumly need 1000cc injectors (1200 may be better, we'll see) and an upgraded fuel system (double pumper and AMS fuel rail probably a good idea). I am personally hoping for some way to do map switching incase I get stuck in an area w/o E85. We'll see on that too.
I was recently looking at the teprha patch i didnt see anything listed for the X tho ,,, however he works off of donation and if you donate or as group get some guys with Xs to donate i think that would do the trick and motivate him a little especially with santa dropping down the chimney in a couple of weeks ,,,, cant wait to see what kinda numbers you end up with if i owned a x i would be going the same route.
We did a cylinder head for an X about 5 or 6 months ago for a guy building a car with a GT4202 and he had mentioned running the car on E85 on the street and E98 at the track. I know the car is up and running and made stupid hp, but I never did find if he tried E85 yet.

Tephra is a dude. More specifically an australian dude who writes hacks and releases patches for various roms that go on our various ECUs. The number of hacks are lengthy, and amazing. Check the evo 1-9 ecuflash section for more details, and then begin the groveling and begging process. I have his stuff on my evo8, and believe me, you want it.
tephras "hacks" and ecu flash tricks are amazing. I had the tephra mode on my evo 8 with the feature of NLTS (No Lift To Shift)... that was an awsome mod major props for tephra hopefully he will work on some stuff for the X but I think the X population has to grow more.
but im down to donate money for his help
