lighter flywheel yea or nay?

Since I've got to replace the clutch anyway... and resurfacing is $50 and the flywheel is $300, what's $250 these days?

So should I go for it? And any recommendations?

My uses: daily driver, HPDEs (track), autocross.

I'll have the ACT TTHD clutch in (TTP spec HD clutch).

i have one in my car and it is great. the engine revs quicker do to less rotational mass on the crank shaft. the only drawback is if you try to launch your car at to low of a rpm the engine will fall flat on it's face do to the additional weight being removed from the crank. so easy fix rise your two step limit and go have some fun.

I'm no track guy, but wouldn't the lightened flywheel help you out more coming out of turns, by reducing what little the turbo lag we have? In other words, quicker reving, quicker spool, equals more consistant times at the track. And with all the track time you see Goofy, if I'm correct, I think it would be a wise decision to get the light flywheel, for your track and autox sake.

But will the lightened flywheel be too much to handle? As in, revs too fast, spools too quick, making the car unstable and unpredictable, reducing track times.

Again, I'm no track guy, I guess I was thinking out loud. Thoughts anyone?

all depends on what you use your car for, drag, street, ect. on my evo 8 i resurfased the stock flywheel and now on my 9 i went with the act street light flywheel. they have an even lighter flywheel (pro light) but i drag a little. i am very happy with how the car revs faster. i guess going middle of the road with weight was just perfect. Make sure you change your throw out bearing if it applies to you evo x tranny. good luck https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-flywheel.html

^ good call I guess I could have searched better/harder/more (or looked down the page!)

At 11.6# for the stock flywheel (according to that post) vs. 11# for the streetlight, I don't think it's worth the $250.

Just FYI, if you autox your car, a lightened flywheel will bump you to at least Street Prepared in SCCA Solo. I'm not sure about tracking your car, but point being, I would do your homework before you pop that sucker in.

Update: I got the streetlight ACT flywheel.

As I posted elsewhere, it weight exactly the same as the stocker.

This is good info and unfortunately, the non-oem clutch I put in the car put me into SP first, so the flywheel (even though it's the same weight) couldn't hurt

Good choice on flywheel. Note- if you hear some chattering type noises at idle, these tend to do this.
