Thanks guys.
Now I need to decide what to do with it. The tranny can be fixed (case welded, 'blockers' put in place). It's operational and had a good amount of oil in it. But I really don't like the idea of all those metal shavings from the case in it. So, I'd rather get a new one...

Maybe you can get one off a wrecked GSR here in the US and ship it over there?

I'm with you though, all it takes is one little shaving in the wrong place and you'll grenade things.

Wonder if it would be cheaper to ship the car back to the US and have it turned in under warranty to get replaced?

I don't think it will be cheper (shipping, customs, time, pay someone to deal with it). Besides, I have an aftermarket clutch, so they'll probably void it anyway.
Getting a tranny from a wrecked car may be an option, if someone can point me out to one?

That car is fubar. Even the parts that didn't get damaged in the crash are probably still damaged from abusive driving. The only reason that the car is for sale is because insurance wouldn't cover it, and the only reason that insurance wouldn't cover a car like that would be if it was crashed on a racetrack. The owner of that car is fooling himself if he thinks he'll get 18k for that car, because it's most likely got frame damage and is worth nothing. His only real hope is to part it out and hope for the best, but even then people should be wary of buying parts from a wrecked car, unless it's a non mechanical item like a shift knob or a body panel. OP: buy a new tranny for 4k, stop launching your car, and enjoy the evo by using it for what it's intended for; road racing, not drag racing.

Being an auto-wrecker and recycler myself, you're looking silly up to the point where you tell the OP to "stop launching your car, and enjoy the evo by using it for what it's intended for; road racing, not drag racing.".

Sounds like you work in insurance or shipping!

Sorry to go off topic, but used parts are not going to blow up in your face like your old tranny. Well, that is unless it was your fault (100%) it blew up in the first place.

Chill out man, take it easy. I was just telling the OP to contact the seller and see if he can just the part he wants, not the whole friggin car. Besides, you only get "wrecked" cars in a junkyard. And, you'd only get cheaper parts than brand new in a Junkyard. So I dont understand what all the fuss is about. Its up to the OP to decide if he wants to take the risk and spend lesser, or take no risk and buy brand new.

One last option would be to see if there are aftermarket trannies for the X like the shep for IX/VIII.

Ok im pretty sure that at one time on ebay there was an evo x transmission manual for 1000 or 1500 dollars and that it was "new" that it was bought for some testing or something but never used, I dont remember. I cant find it anymore but I thought id just let you know.

At some point there was also an evo x engine with turbo on ebay, both these items may have been purchased at some point.

Ill keep searching.

Sorry to hear that I also hope this is not a trend.
I know of another case like this here in Russia. Exactly the same problem.
I'm still struggling to understand what may have caused this. If you know the reason, it's easier to prevent it.

My car is back up. I've replaced the whole transmission and the car runs fine now (although I'm breaking it in).
It seems the front diff failure is becoming a common problem for Evo X. Since my incident, I've recorded at least 6 another similar cases (some more are suspected).
I still want to understand the reason for this. My suspicion is wheel spin. Just before my diff went I did some crazy snow driving. So did another person with a similar problem. But what kind of an Evo is this if you can't do snow driving (((
Be careful with your Evos, guys.

Differentials and axles break when they gain massive traction following a lot of wheel spin. Certainly this is the case with 4x4's with bigger tires driving off road.

So should no manufactured car today ever drag race? Maybe it's Mitsu's fault. I'm just considering the hundreds of stories and experiences I've heard of and had of launching evo's and I never heard of them breaking with little mods done. There are very few things that could occur within 4500 miles of a brand new car that could do what was shown unless your trying to break something.
