Doesn't cosworth make a M3 item in addition to the mx1 with different lift?

For the Evo VIII/IX yes, but the Evolution X, no. It is listed erroneously on a few vendor websites however it is not in Cosworth's catalog.

Mild Kelford cams with FP Red?

Not wanting to hi-jack this thread but on a similar theme...any views on how the mild Kelford cams (with Kelford's valve spring set) would run with an FP Red?

In a couple of weeks I'm getting various parts fitted (full Nisei pipe kit, TBE with HFC - and a tune)...and just wondering if I should get the Kelford mild cams fitted at the same time.

However, there's a slim chance I'll upgrade to an FP Red later down the line...so I don't want to fit the mild cams if they don't work well with the FP Red. My car is a DD and I'm not after huge numbers...I just want as much as I can get as low in the rev range as possible.

The FP Red appears to have reasonable response for a bolt on turbo - perhaps in conjunction with the mild Kelford cams it will be even more responsive?

Any thoughts on this - or has anyone combined the two? I'm no expert on this stuff and don't want to make an expensive mistake.

As far as I know Kelford has Stage 1 and Stage 2 cams. The mild ones are Stage 1 and they work with stock springs. More agressive Stage 2 cams require Kelford spring set.
So which ones are you referring to as "mild", Stage 1 or Stage 2?

I'm referring to the Stage 1 Kelford cams (214-A). From what I can tell they can also be used with the Kelford springs (if you want to).

But please correct me if I'm wrong - as I say, I'm no expert on this stuff.

bump for some more info on cam testing...anyone with the kelford stage 2 yet?

im still debating on the cosworth mx1 or kelford stage 2 to get installed when i get my Red in. I know the Red makes alot of power up top so i was thinking the kelford stage 2 would allow me to get to that power with the upgraded valve springs...but i feel the mx1 would give me a broader power range.

Would the stage 2 kelfords allow me to rev higher and get that top end power more than the mx1's? as in would only the upgraded valve springs allow me to rev higher?

I talked to Kelford personally about the Kelford stage 2's and they told me this:

Dave,

No we didn’t try them on stock turbo, but one of our UK customers has and he likes them. I don’t have his dyno sheet though.

Personally I think they are a bit big for the stock unit, we really made them for GT35r turbo sizing.

So you could run them on the stock turbo, but who knows how tough they will be to tune, I don't think anyone has tuned them on the stock turbo with ECUflash or other stock ecu tool.

I was going to do them on the stock turbo and be the first but I decided I am going to go with the Cosworth so I don't have to completely pull my head, because if I had to I mind as well replace a bunch of crap.

Ps. I was looking for a cam to max teh stock turbo and be a little rough and still make good gains on an FPred when I get one later on, so I am going to try the cosworth, I should have results in a few weeks.

OH kelford said this as well...

Dave,

They just fitted the springs, no other parts. I don’t know what they did as far as mapping go’s but they are using MoteC.

AMS UICP

We are going to be installing kelford stage 2 cams in a proven stock turbo evo x gsr shortly. Customer is waiting on arp head studs and we will be testing.

I will update this thread as soon as we get the ball rolling.

I assume you are still going to be using ECUflash?

Is this the car that is running C16 I am assuming?
