prices are high compaired to what I have seen. clutch should be 500, cams should be 500-750, but the turbo/injector install and tune sounds right.

installs and parts are cheaper for 8/9's because the 4g63 has been out for so long. shops know their way around the 4g63 with so many years experience and the same would go with tuning. parts are cheaperr because of competition from different manufactures. there are less competing manufactures for the x so their prices are higher. just keep building up your parts for a another year or more(easier said than done) and prices should drop when getting what you want done is more common for the make/model you have

I've got a big, hot turbo here burning a hole in my pocket.. err... trunk. I think I'll have to suck it up before next year. Thanks though.

U have to pay to play with performance cars. The VIII i had was cheaper than the 10 do to the 10 still being new. But the VIII was not cheap hell no evo is cheap to work on or to mod. That is why the few people that do have them feel that they have a rare car which they do. If evos were cheap don't u think that ever one would drive them around like a civic. I drive a honda right now as my dd till i save enough for a VIII or 9 in a few years but this time the evo will just be for the weekends

Clutch install for the X should not cost more than the 8/9 since it is the same transmission. If they try to charge you more, they are ripping you off.

While the prices for mods themselves may be high for the Evo X, the cost of labor shouldn't necessarily be on the same scale. $1000 for a clutch job seems steep, I'd shop it first if you can. If not, then definitely don't go to some random shop because they're cheaper.

You are just paying for labor hours. Shop labor rate is $80/hr. The prices might come down once shops find out what amount of time it takes to do specific jobs. They are high on the cams and turbo swap, but the clutch I'd say they are right on. Any shop charging $500 to swap an EVO X clutch is on crack, or really hurting for work. There is no way they are doing it in 6.25 hours.

Do it yourself. You will learn

They are not the same transmission and it takes me a good 2-3 hours longer to do an X clutch job than an VIII-IX.

Forgive the noob question, but why does it take that much longer?

There is a lot more **** in the way and you need rubber arms to reach some of the bolts I did my X and an VIII in the same weekend and did the VIII in half the time.

Buschur verbally quoted me $350 for a cam job on the X. AMS was $950. BIG difference between the two. Maybe AMS was error on the side of safety, where Buschur has already done a cam install and knows what's up? Something seems wrong between the two. Just not sure what it is.

That's news to me. Thanks for the information. I've read three threads on here stating that it was the same transmission except for the throwout bearing. An increase in price makes sense then.

Considering the materials used (i.e. stainless steel) on exhausts, piping kits, etc. the price is reasonable but by no means cheap. Like many posters say you have to pay to play so you can expect to pay a premium price for premium performance. Despite the expensive price tag on these aftermarket parts the majority of the vendors in this community offer excellent after-sale support for their products which is very important when dropping hundreds or even thousands of dollars on parts.

The Labor they are charging is too high IMHO, I have many friends who are techs and I could get a better deal going to many places with lots of turbo car experience for cheaper than that. I would look elsewhere
