X mod pricing... are you serious??

OK, so I'm ready to install my FP Red and am looking to do some other supporting mods... clutch, fmic, cams, etc., but the quotes I'm getting to do this work seem outrageous. I mean I'm all about supporting the economy, but $1900 to install and tune a turbo & injectors? $1000+ to do a clutch? $1000+ to do cams? labor only? Is this really the going rate? I know you have to pay to play, but I thought things were supposed to be getting cheaper nowadays. At this rate, I might not be able to afford everything I want to do. Any advice or recomendations, or is this just reality with the X? Thanks.

at that rate i bet you could afford to pay a "pro" fly in (round trip) and stay in a motel (if need be).

mods for the X are more, give them some time to come down a bit.. but also remember that while they are more expensive, fewer mods will give you more power.

I think the exhaust systems are pretty overpriced as well.

Mod prices are a little more expensive than I expected. Coming from a car that has 2 turbos, 2 DPs, 2 midpipes, 2 Catbacks, etc. I paid 750 for a true dual catback from Specialty Z for my Z. I am now looking at the CPE exhaust and T1R 76S, and both are just as expensive. I expected an exhaust to be more around the 550 range, boy was I wrong lol, unless I go single pipe/can.

This car is a new model, give it a while. The best names in the game are still doing R&D and still haven't come out with a full line of bolt ons. Once everyone has their own full line of products, they will most likely start competing for customers.

You are right, the prices are much higher then what you see with the CT9A Evos.

The clutch should come in around $750 for labor. Cams are more complicated then the older Evo too so I would expect it to be a little higher. The turbo and injectors are not hard to do, it seems like someone is just trying to see if they can take you for some serious money. Isn't AMS not too far away from you? It might be worth a trip and they are the best.

i paid $502.25 for clutch install (new flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc, and bearing) that is just for labor and fluids. i purchased the flywheel and clutch and took it to the shop. so yes a 1000+ for labor to install a clutch is way high. good luck.

and I believe RRE's price to swap cams (per the motortrend blog) is $500.

Yes, AMS is nearby, and I will definitely have them tune it. Just trying to gauge what fair labor prices should be.

Uhh, if you would do cams on a 10 for 200 your nutz. Timing cover has to come off as does the oil pan so that 4 hour job is now more like 8 or 10.

And take it from someone who has already swapped their turbo..... It takes WAY longer than an VIII or IX.

A good mechanic is worth every penny they charge. You can try to save few hundred bucks, but when you have problems later, was it really worth it? I would focus on good quality mechanic first. A bad mechanic is overpriced, period.
