This is very complex to me I'm my findings shops like ams, BR, ets, & much other use MBc on the evo X & get real good outcomes electric or manual like if I was yo get a manual boost controller set it to 25 psi & never touch it on stock turbo that would not be safe? Mabye its just me but I have not seen to many people use & electric boost controller on a evo X yet

Shops like ams or whoever else will make crazy power no matter what they use for a boost controller lol. if you want a mbc so bad just buy one already. there cheap and effective, however low tech at most.

Shops use aftermarket boost controllers most likely because they are testing aftermarket parts at a myriad of boost levels with different kinds of fuel and tunes and an aftermarket boost controller is the simplest, most efficient way to alter boost levels on the fly.

You are right on this!

1 simple answer for you then

Not many people know how to tune the X with electronic controllers ..

You're more than likely to throw a CEL when you go part throttle full boost as commanded by the EBC ..

Thats why everyone says use ECU controlled boost .. less headache ..

Hello guys & gals! Comming from the wrx to the evo I am n da same boat. I have never used a MBC I HAVE ALLWAYS USED A EBC. The reason is so many like 5th gear pulls part throttle and a host of other reasons. This is just me I am NO TUNNER by far. It allways made me fell a lil more better knowing that $500 thing wit the nice lights will cut boost at my set max. I have used the avcir on my first wrx and don't get me wrong it's nice, but way to much for a first. I will not buy one again knowing what I no now. The best one I used was the blitz I forget the model but I had the ID unit to match. ( this was back in 02,03). I am looking to get the new model it was just so simple to use. It had boost set for speeds, that will help on high way pulls. I am at and would love to talk more but I got to go. Good luck

ECU controlled boost. Better control, control in more points, protected.

MBC and EBC on stock turbo are a total waste.

Erm .. lets debunk that myth ..

Its NOT easy dialling in the boost you want with ECU controlled boost.. call me a stickler for precision ..
With EBC .. you keep the car running and adjust the boost as required ..

I'll agree with the protected though .. not many people can run 26psi with EBC and not throw a CEL ..

I prefer the AVCR in terms of a boost controller because it has both RPM AND gear based boost control for each of 5 gears. That being said, on a stock turbo car I agree that factory boost control works just fine. I see no reason for anyone to use an MBC. I have an FP Red and even with the stock weak actuator untouched it holds 22 PSI just fine with the stock boost control setup using ECUflash.

Can you keep the boost from tapering down just by tuning the ecu?
