well i agree on caliper shift causing a single or a small burst of clicks but it was a constant click when at full lock and it didn't matter whether it was just at start up or after i had driven all day. Namely i noticed it in the morning as well as when i was driving up my parking garage after my commute home from work. Its CV's. However J5isalive2 is correct that caliper shift is a similar sound.

I just wanted to make that clear so we didn't have a bunch of people running to Mitsu claiming they have worn CV;s lol

I can see MMNA all of a sudden seeing like 100 people a day saying they have bad axels.

Yep mine is def doing this, I'm taking it to the dealership on monday. Did they gladly fix it under warranty or did you have to fight to get them to fix it.

Ummmm if your rotors are moving when your backing up or going foward you may want to check your lug nuts. Thats not what your hearing. Your rotors should NEVER move like you stated. Sometimes you will here the pads shifting in the caliper brackets but this shouldnt be the case on an evo as there are no caliper brackets. I've heard of multiple guys having issues with the CV's and most were on MR's.

Sorry to bump such a super old thread. but is THIS the noise that everyone is talking about??? If so, I think I'm in luck because I was just about to pull the transmission thinking it was a bad center diff. 2011 GSR with 72k miles. Thanks

I literally have this exact sound. I even said the same thing in my head. I had the entire front drive-train checked when I had some seals replaced but they couldn't find a single thing wrong. Mine tends to happen right at full clutch enguagement. Not "quite" as bad as the vid @iroc-evo posted

No grease anywhere. Both transfer case and transaxle fluid looked fine (to me, but I must admit, I don't know exactly what I'm looking for).

I've already taken out the transaxle and and transfer case and I've arranged to have it sent to Jack's Transmissions.

I have a friend who is certain it's the center diff. But the guy at Jack's said it sounded like it might be front diff (in transfer case), so I'm sending them both units.

Also getting my front sway bar and timing chain done while I'm in there
