Sounds more clear now.

With the Cobb AccessPort you REMOVE the pill for Stage 2.

People are confusing which pills are what.

The COBB instructions are for the solenoid side pill. Taking this out increases the boost all by itself but has some drawbacks.

The boost pill upgrade, is replacing the turbo side pill with a upgraded one that allows much more boost and fine tuning of the boost curve.

Taking out the turbo side pill will drop boost to wastegate level boost.

Do a quick search on how a bleed type solenoid controlled boost system works to better understand it.

Just out of curiousity, why not eliminate the "pill" system altogether and run a traditional boost controller? Does anybody know what the factory wastegate spring is rated for anyhow? After years of great control over boost levels via a few different EBC's (Profec, AVC-R) I just don't follow why the need for the whole "pill-in or pil-out" headache when you can simplify this via a small rotary knob or click of a button.

The stock boost control is far superior to any EBC, and it comes with the car.

If you know what you are doing, there is no headache.

Really now? Can this claim be substantiated? I ask because I've used Profec's and AVC-R's on both internally and externally gated units before with incredible accuracy so I'd have to ask what makes the OE unit not just superior but far superior?

Yes, really now.

The profec is basically a glorified MBC that is electronically controlled. The AVC-R is closer to the capabilities of the stock boost control system but also costs $400+. The HKS EVC is probably the best of all the EBC's but the more powerful features are a added cost option which can make the controller $600+

The stock boost control system on the Evo 10 has these features, and again, comes with the car:

1. per RPM (18 points of control) and per TPS % (9 points of control) boost control in 3D tables

2. Full error correction system with the same per RPM and per TPS % that intergrates with the same engine load the ECU sees to calculate fueling, etc. Which means it sees the same temp compensations as the other ECU controls.

3. Gear based boost control with a seperate 3D per RPM and per TPS % control

4. Boost limit cut control with fully tunable ms over/under delay

5. On the SST trans equipped Evo 10's, the stock boost control system is intergrated into the SST TCU and ECU controls.

Again, this is all available without another purchase

Add a 3 port boost solenoid for even more control ($100 or under added cost)

The stock system works well with internal and external gates.

I am driving a MR. Have anyone try going stage 2 map without removing the boost pill? I wonder what would happen? I am guessing worst case scenario you are not getting the higher boost you want?

Thanks in advance

Any more consensus on this? I just installed an AP Stg2 on my SE w/SST and am wondering if I should remove the boost pill or not.
