Best clutch for about 500HP

What is the best clutch I could get for but would be still good for about 500whp but would still be good for everyday driving?

my car is still new, but I want to get it to about 450-500 whp. I want to get a clutch from now. which one would be the best :

ACT ME1-HDR6 is rated for 655 FT/LBS

http://www.outperformanceshop.com/AC...me1-hdr6-b.htm

Carbonetic street Twin Plate Carbon clutch 500 FT/LBS

http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/C...mance.com.html

Exedy Twin Metallic Clutch :
Max Torque @ Wheels, Drag - 455
Max Torque @ Wheels, Street/Road Race - 563

http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/e...lutch-kit.html

any other clutches that I missed ?

I Dont mind getting a clutch that is rated for a higher HP than what I need if I wont need to change it again. what are the advantages and disadvantages if each of those clutches ?

any ideas ?

I went for Cusco, it's exactly the same clutch as the Exedy Twin plate (Exedy make them), great feel, only very slightly heavier than stock, quiet for a twin. I'd personally stay away from ACT though

I have been thinking about getting the ARK design, it is suppose to be a good clutch.

I guess it's about $800-$1000 if you want to do a regular clutch replacement and buy a lightweight flywheel vs $1800-$2400 for a Twin clutch setup. Add another $600-$800 for labor and it better last a good while!

If you go with the ACT clutches, I would avoid an unsprung clutch disc for the street. The sprung 6 puck is acceptable on the street but likely if you don't beat on the car with launches the HD pressure plate with street disc will be much more livable and last longer for street driving. Also the Extreme pressure plate can get you some more holding power but I've heard of some lockout problems while shifting at high RPM's, not sure if that is a faulty install or the other stock parts in the clutch system causing issues like the master and/or slave cylinder.

All this talk about clutches is making me look more and more at a twin plate setup. My car is a daily driver, and I like the feel and street drivability of the stock clutch, so I would be looking for something that is as close to the stock clutch as I can get in terms of drivability and being able to slip the clutch in traffic or driving through a parking lot or wherever.

For those that have a twin plate clutch, how does it compare to stock? On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate street drivability?....10 being the feel of a stock clutch and 1 being an on/off switch.

I wish I could drive one for myself first to get a feel for it...

cusco twn plate is probobly 10% heavier to use, I stalled it about 3 times the first night, very precise biting point, gives me much more confidence, feels superb, I'd buy again.....only down side is some rattle when the pedal is depressed, it's hardly noticable inside the car

We have a special model HDTTP ACT clutch rated to 600tq that provides for no high rpm lockouts and great wear characteristics, low pedal effort and high power and torque holding capacity.

PM us for pricing as it costs about 1/3 of some of your other options above.

EXEDY twins burn through the discs quickly and they are $500-550 to replace +$550-800 install + $50 in trans and tcase fluids + any other twin plate component that may be warped or heatspotted.

How long have you had it on? and how often do you launch your car. the way you drive your car determine how long it will last?

and one of my friends has ACT on his car, he races with it often but the clutch is holding really good.

only been on about 2000 miles, and yes, it gets launched I know of a local 600bhp evo 7 that's had a cusco twin on for 15k miles with drag strip launches and it's holding fine, so good enough for me

We use it on our own car at 12.0@113mph+ full weight stock turbo.

It is good to 700whp. It is good enough for your 450whp.

As with any clutch, it will depend on your driving style and skill. It very well could last you years if you are a skilled driver.
