15 dollar HP!

ok so a buddy told me to try this out.. he did it on his and said it made a noticeable difference... he told me the filter was 15 bucks at advanced.. so i went there it was 9 bucks at mine... so i took the return line from the intake pipe off and put the filter in... ok yes it did make a noticeble difference in how loud the turbo spool is... and it does feel like there is more boost for longer... but i have no guage installed yet to see if it really makes a difference... soooo does anyone else have this done??? anyone know if this is good ... bad... or no difference for the engine????

i did notice a slight amount of suction from the return line towards the intercooler... so do i need to filter this also?? anyone any clues????

What you have done is made your diverter valve VTA. You don't need a filter for the dv exit.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that everyone is going to suggest you hook it back up.

But, I don't own an X.

(done in the most un-flame way possible!)

I'll say it not nice.

You're dumb for doing this. Put it back the way it was.

1. You have essentially made your diverter valve VTA instead of recirc. Not so good.
2. You have now disrupted the way the air is getting into the engine because air is coming in after the maf sensor therefore probably causing your engine to run an erroneous afr.

Put it back the way it was and smack your friend.

Not too smart. You are fighting the Re-circs purpose. Change it back, agreed.

unregistered air coming into your intake (after the sensor) will cause your a/f ratio to become leaner; which is probably why you're feeling a little performance gain. Let's just hope 1) you haven't WOT too many times since it will be big bang time in your cylinders soon or 2) have ridiculously rich tune so you stayed within the safe zone.

bottom line: keep your eyes on the AFR (I assume you have one) because I have a feeling it's probably in the no-no zone.

Your friend has an Evo? If not, then you shouldn't trust that every neon owner's autozone upgrades will be good for your evo.

If you didn't realize this by now, the evo community isn't known to be the kindest most caring bunch.

That being said, it wouldn't bother me one bit if you torched your evo for fun since you're the one who paid for it, you can rightfully do whatever you want to it. In all seriousness though, change it back if you care about your cars engine performance, people already explained the disadvantages of this "mod" so it's pretty clear cut.

Harsh stuff removed.
OP, not a good idea. I'd put it back. Its a performance loss after shifts, not a gain.
