Stock OEM Clutch Life - Evo X
Stock OEM Clutch Life - Evo X
Wow, I just got my evoX a couple days ago and boy does the clutch and shifter feel different then in my 09 GTS that I traded in. Its so stiff and shifting feels much more definitive and solid. My evoX will only be driven by me for daily to and from work commutes and weekend cruises into or out of Boston. Assuming I drive just 10k miles a year, normal driving, no modifications, and never launch the car above 2500rpms, how much life should I get out of the clutch? The way it feels now assuming I never track or really beat on it, I would say this thing should last 40k+ miles. Is that an accurate assessment?
Try 100k if you know what you're doing, never launch it and treat it with the upmost respect! I'm going on 17k and it still feels like the first day I purchased it, however since the clutch is broken in it's much easier to take off now! BTW the transmission in the GTS is totally different than the GSR.
Yea, its amazing the difference, I remember after test driving an evoX and then getting back in my lancer for a few mins, the clutch felt so loose like i was pushing in a stretched out rubber band.
I really plan on taking great care of the evo and the more I mature the less I want to burnout or drop the clutch in cars. I spent a ton of money on this vehicle and I would like the parts to last as long as possible. It's certainly still a blast to drive without beating on it.

Yeah the EVO is tons of fun without moding or ripping on her! I will tell you one thing though, you'll never have to worry about burning out ... Whiplash, yes! Burnout no, good luck and congrats! What color are you rocking?
The clutch will last a long time if you don't abuse it. You can get on it hard, just not all the time. I just had my clutch replaced, and I didn't even need to. I have 10K on it, with about 15 drag strip launches at 5,500rpm and it still looks good. Hardly any wear at all! I imagine I could of gone to 40,000 easily....even with 40-50 launches.
I got it replaced because I got it tuned and upped to 2-step to 6,000rpm. With about 80hp over stock and the higher rev limit, I don't think the stock clutch could handle it. But as for stock power levels and just above, it will be fine for a long time.
The key word here is "abuse". You can drive it hard every now and then like at the track, but not every day.

This makes only my second manual, I came from a 94/2000 5spd. split port swamp mustang and I'm rocking close to 17k on the X and the clutch grabs like a dream! If you drive the car with respect you can make the clutch last, if you launch 24/7 than yes, 6k and a new clutch, if not sooner!
P.S. I've driven lots of manuals but have only owned two out of my 5 rides!

ouch. i got a tune a year ago and everything is fine, but i usually don't drive hard, and zero launches so far since owning it.
I'm at 31k miles!!! Still stock OEM clutch...taught 2 people how to drive manual on it, 3 track days, 3 hard launches with too much slipping and some smoke and smell. But it still feels great. And it's tuned. So those who burn a clutch in a few thousand miles are doing something wrong...
