The TWM short shifter is 1.25" shorter than stock.

Stock shifter is the silver one on the right in my picture.

And from the Works site: http://www.worksevo.com/store/produc...roducts_id=540

The installation does NOT require any cutting/trimming of the factory carrier housing.
So Works SS owners.... how was the install?

in my opinion....this is the way to go: tmw short shifter+works urethane bushings+tmw weighted shift knob....that's what i'm getting anyway. From what I understand the urethane bushings are much nice on other parts/dont place any added stress on other parts. And if you're looking to improve on your shifting feel, then I would switch over to AMSOIL tranny oil also...

the reason why I said TWM.. cuz I tried it on my friends car and feels awsome... The throw is much shorter and it shifts pretty smooth... I've ordered mine and can't wait to put it on my car...

The main goal is to get shorter shifts since the X has about 1ft in between every gear - at least it feels like that to me. Shorter shifts and you can keep the RPM's up higher between shifts as well.

you just have to grind off a clip, which is probably what he is doing. other than that the install is pretty easy, it took me a while because i did the steering wheel audio controls at the sametime

Yea I was just cutting the clip that holds those 2 pins in. It's either that or pry it off with a flathead screwdriver, but that was a lot more difficult than just cutting it off.

Hold up, you've been mislead here. The guy who posted the pic w/ the dremal is not cutting/trimming the factory carrier housing, he's cutting off the clips that hold the retention pins in place. You have the remove these clips to access the shifter - period. You can pound them off w/ a hammer/chisel, but cutting them off is by far the quickest and easiest way.

I have the TWM and the base bushings, and I'm very satisfied.

If you look at what I call the pivot point, it is higher than on the stock one. Plus just a tad shorter in overall height..... Both combined would make a "shorter throw". Were you thinking of the entire shifter just being really short?
