Evo X Drivetrain problems help?
I have a 5 speed manual Evo X in the UK and have some major problems with the drive train and I'm looking to see if anyone has had any similar experiences?
The shift is fine a little notchy when cold but otherwise OK
The main symptoms are a rubbing and then knocking noise coming from underneath the front centre of the car (front diff area ????) when doing hard right hand turns at speed. Turning when slow is fine no noise.
No oil leaks either.
The car has done 10K miles
I have also noticed some vibration through the steering wheel when the car is cold and also have noticed a slight click once or twice when engaging the clutch. Not sure if these are related tho.
Any ideas?

I have just had a look at the oil in the gearbox and in the transfer box. The oil in the gearbox was fine and looked normal however the oil in the transfer box was very thick black and full of very fine metallic filings but no big bits of metal. So it looks like the diff or something in the transfer box is wearing abnormally. The mechanic said he would expect that amount of metallic from a 80k car not a 10k car.
The noise from the transfer diff sounds as if it is loose or it is slipping and knocking really bad when put under strain during fast cornering only, driving straight the car is fine.
No sign of any oil leaks at all.

I'm having this problem, but unable to get a proper diagnosis.
Does your knock, like a left-to-right knocking where you can feel it in the pedals? Kind of a knock/light clunk noise? Mine makes noise whether turning or not, even driving in a straight line.
I also believe the front diff is the culprit - I have 26000 kms (about 16k miles) on the odo.

that sounds more like a gear box diff. Others who have had their gearboxes go say the noise is bad even when you drive in a straight line mine is only when i go hard around corners
