Milspec 100 cell because i use to have it and it was wonderful.

And and....it might be cheaper than AMS. (If i am not mistaken.)

I've read posts from people with a 100 count HFC stating it fails sniffer tests at state inspections. In addition they don't fully eliminate the smell you get from running a test pipe.

These reasons are why I went with the AMS 300 count HFC, plus their reputation for making high quality parts. I get no smell from my AMS HFC, it comes with two metal gaskets, fitment was perfect, and it has an extra bung for an A/F sensor.

Not sure about the milspec, but I have the AMS HFC and love it. Use to run the SX resonated test pipe and I would have to agree with you that the smell can be a little to much at times. Only draw back with the AMS is that I had to chop off one of the 3 bolts that holds a shield for the driveshaft cover. No biggie easy to do and the cover sits perfect with no rattles.

It's a trade-off of smell and hp. The 300 cell isn't as likely to stink. Glad I'm E85 now.

Chop off one of the 3 bolts that holds a shield for the driveshaft cover?

I had no issues other than spreading the heat shield where the HFC connects to the DP.

I am also looking into getting a HFC, does either one of these make your exhaust louder?

looking at the pic it is the heat shild behind your hanger and cat. It has some speckled surface rust on yours. There are 3 bolts. 2 on the bottom and one pointing right torward the cat. That one (maybe because of my exhaust setup, Cobb SS) I had to chop off or during bumps it would hit the cat. real nasty rattle!!

I meant which of the 2 will be the louder one, sorry I should of explained. I know that a HFC will make your exhaust loud either way.

I have a TP and a 100 cell Mil.Spec HFC. The HFC is quieter than the TP, but not by very much.

What about the difference in smell?

It definitely cuts down the smell relative to the test pipe, but it still smells. Stop-and-go driving is when it really becomes bothersome, but now I keep my A/C on recirculate: problem solved.
