Question P1320- Ignition Timing Retard Insufficient?

Had the code identified.......
Does anyone know what this is? What causes it? And is this something that could negatively effect my car and should take it to the dealer? Thanks!

FTM:

After starting the engine in the cold state, the ECM retards the ignition timing to early activate the catalyst by letting out the high temperature exhaust gases.

Check Conditions
•Under the ignition timing retard control.
•Engine coolant temperature is between 7°C (45°F) and 36°C (97°F).

Judgement Criteria
•For 10 seconds, the difference between the basic ignition timing and the target/specified ignition timing is 3°CA or less on average during the retard control.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are
•The thermostat is faulty.

Since you have a tune you will need to do some diagnosis yourself before taking it to the dealer...

I have NO issues with the running of the car even though it keeps throwing this code. 2 questions.....

It seems that many others have had this code. There is a dealer reflash that is supposed to solve this problem.

1. Will I have any DAMAGE if I just ignore this code and don't get it resolved?

2. If I did get the reflash from the dealer..... What will it do to my Ecutek Tune that I already have?

Thanks!

if the thermo is stuffed then yes you should get it fixed asap...

most likely the dealer will just clear the code before doing anything - you should do the same...

1) maybe
2) the dealer will just flash over it, so backup your tune first, flash back to stock, take it to the dealer, then flash the ecutek back on...
