Modified actually did an article on their project evo x and they took a stock evo, put it on a dyno and recorded it then put their first mod which was an aem intake and then tuned the car. they got a 51 whp increase with just the aem intake and a tune!

But they also claimed that if you don't get it tuned, you may end up with no power gain after the car gets used to the intake. So maybe I'll just take mine off for now, until I can afford to get it tuned.

this was my case as well. i went in for a tune with:

1. aem intake
2. 70mm exhaust
3. ur downpipe (not full o2)
4. uicp

it's a '10 mr. dyno'd @ 260hp on a dynojet:

according to my tuner, that's similar to a completely stock, non-tuned mr. so, with all those mods, i made almost no power. the curve #004 is after the tune--car gained about 30hp from the tune.

without the tune, my tuner said the car was knocking significantly, and timing was way off. he suggested that was due to the intake.

but i still think this intake will make the most power after a tune, and is one of the best made. plus you won't have to deal with hydrolock like with other cold air systems, which aren't even available for mr's.

St1g you should look into a HFC as the stock cat is very restrictive. Or if you don't care about CA laws either a resonated pipe or a test pipe.

i completely agree. in fact, during the same visit, i tested a cat for a manufacturer and did a before and after dyno for them. it made very large gains--i'd post the dynos, but i'm not sure if i'm allowed. i'll ask him. if so, i'll link. but yes, you're right, a good cat can make a huge difference on this car--i have the graphs to prove it.
