Brown E85 fuel filter?

When I converted I switched to an 8/9 fuel filter. After 6 months or so it looks like this.

Problems?

This might sound silly, but could it have caramelized since it is corn based? Not meaning a heat issue, but I'm thinking how sugar based stuff browns things when cooking.

It'd be funny if E85 cars were cookin up small batches of molasses, but it's just not the case...

it should be the junk inside the fuel tank (from your gasoline days) that the ethanol has freed up and it now flowed into your filter. Ethanol is great engine cleaner too
